Encounter fans are in for a pleasant surprise as TV5 and Sari Sari Channel, together with Viva Entertainment, brings an adaptation of the widely followed K-drama to Philippine television.

The 2018 South Korean television series which starred the well-received tandem of Song Hye-Kyo and Park Bo-Gum will get a dose of Pinoy flavor as it features the same story but in scenes and situations that are more familiar among Filipino audiences.

Encounter

Set to premiere on March 20, Cristine Reyes plays the role of Selene, CEO of Hotel d’ Trevi Hotel, and a daughter of a prominent politician who was forced to marry the son of a business tycoon but eventually gets divorced. Diego Loyzaga, plays Gino, a young and free-spirited random stranger who on a chanced encounter falls in love with Selena.

The two then meet again in extraordinary circumstances with Gino ending up in a job on a company that Selene manages.

Being in a relationship for these two characters will not be an easy feat with the peril of public scandals and Selene’s forfeiture of her conjugal share.

During a recent media conference for the launch of Encounter, Cristine Reyes and Diego Loyzaga both said that they have tried their best to imitate the original characters so that fans of the series will be able to easily relate to their version.

Notorious for being a “maldita” on the set, Director Jeffrey Jeturian said that a “new” and very different Cristine Reyes came in and out of their taping schedules for Encounter. Diego even attested to the child-like side of the actress and has nothing but praises for her co-star.

Cristine said that her newfound outlook in life was probably the reason for all the positive changes happening within her.

Cristine recently starred in the 2019 action-thriller film “Maria” while Diego Loyzaga just came out of a long hiatus after starring in the TV series Los Bastardos. Although working together for the first time, the chemistry between the two were evident in the official trailer.

The original Encounter happened in Cuba but for the Philippine adaptation director Jeffrey Jeturian chose Ilocos for its picturesque landscape and beautiful sunset as the backdrop of the series’ most memorable scenes.

The director was originally looking at shooting these scenes either in Cambodia, Vietnam or Thailand but with the Covid19 restrictions they were forced to look for a place within the country that will do justice to it and Ilocos was the most perfect choice.

The show will also feature Kean Cipriano, Robert Seña, Maricel Morales, Yayo Aguila, Louise delos Reyes, Gardo Versoza, Isay Alvarez, and more.
