Have you seen the Chapel of San Pedro Calungsod at the top of SM Aura Premier?
I have only been to SM Aura Premier three times. First time I visited the place, I said to myself that this must be the most boring SM mall ever but that was only a couple of weeks after it opened to the public. My second visit was a year ago but it was only to attend an event at their SMX Convention Center – I wasn’t able to roam around and quite frankly I wasn’t that interested as well.
My third visit was just a couple of weeks ago. I attended a Samsung event at the SMX Convention Center. After the event, a fellow blogger asked me if I’ve already seen the Chapel of SM Aura, and of course I said no. And since we still both got time to kill, he volunteered to bring me there and tour me around the Mall.
The Chapel of San Pedro Calungsod is shaped like an abstract cave, it has a semi-circular opening that evokes images of the cave of the Resurrection is located at the 7th floor or the roof deck of the mall. We took a special elevator at the 4th level near the restaurant area that brought us straight to the Chapel.
Surrounded by the Skypark with its lush greens and water features, the chapel is the perfect place to stop, rest, and reflect. It is named in honor of San Pedro Calungsod, the first Visayan saint, who is considered a role model for the youth. Martyred in Guam for his missionary work in 1672, he was beatified by Blessed Pope John Paul II on March 5, 2000 and canonized by Pope Benedict XVI at Saint Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City on Oct. 21, 2012.
The Chapel of San Pedro Calungsod is shaped like an abstract cave, it has a semi-circular opening that evokes images of the cave of the Resurrection. Gracefully designed ribs lead to the backlit altar-front, inviting the faithful inside for reflection and prayer. The wood and marble finishes give the chapel a simple natural feel. Quietly elegant, the Chapel of San Pedro Calungsod can seat almost 300 people.
It also has 14 stations of the Cross, a statue of San Pedro Calungsod and the Virgin Mary.

After that visit at the Chapel of San Pedro Calungsod and that view from Skypark, I began to see SM Aura Premier in a different light. There are more shops now and the architecture was truly magnificent, inside and out. Plus it’s also one of the very few structures in the world that are LEED and Green Building certified.
