Established on January 18, 1752, the Parish of Saint Michael the Archangel (San Miguel) in Bacoor is one of the oldest church in the province of Cavite.

San Miguel is located along the street of Evangelista in Poblacion, Bacoor and is situated near the City Hall of Bacoor and right in front of the town’s Hall of Justice. So basically, the whole town grew from this church. The same with many other cities and towns all over the Philippines.

In fact, the first seat of office of the Philippine Revolutionary Government is just a couple of meters away from Saint Michael the Archangel Church.

Another historical significance of this church is associated with one of its Parish Priests – Fr. Mariano Gomez, a Filipino secular priest during the Spanish Colonial period is the GOM of the triumvirate GOMBURZA who were all sentenced to death by the Spanish colonial authorities by way of Garrote on charges of subversion and leading a failed Cavite mutiny in February 17, 1872.

The other priests were Fr. Jose Burgos and Fr. Jacinto Zamora. The execution was held in Bagumbayan (now Rizal Park) and their bodies buried in an unmarked grave at the Paco Cemetery (now Paco Park).

The death of GOMBURZA became the poison apple to the once strong colonial powers that held the Philippines for more than 4 centuries (1521 – 1898). From their deaths, a new breed of Nationalism was born, one that will be led by the middle class (Ilustrados) with the help Dr. Jose P. Rizal.

So there’s actually a lot of historical significance embedded in the walls of Saint Michael the Archangel Church of Bacoor.

You can actually tell that San Miguel is really very old. The walls at the side of the interiors of the church is actually filled with tombs. Now if this is not a Church, one would find that very creepy. Practical, but very creepy.

I just find it very odd that right in front of the Church is a newly-built monument dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and couldn’t find a single statue or marker outside dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel except for that enclosed image located at the top part of the Church’s facade and small sculptures on its main door.

How to Get There:

You may ride any public utility vehicles that will pass through Emilio Aguinaldo Hi-Way (Imus, Dasmarinas, Silang, Tagaytay). Ask the driver to let you off at Talaba, look for Evangelista St., and then ride a Jeepney going to Binakayan or Mabolo. Ask the driver to let you off at Saint Michael Church (don’t use San Miguel). Your landmark is the Justice B. Ocampo Park which is just right beside the Parish.
