In an era where art often feels sequestered behind the velvet ropes of high-end galleries or the digital glass of screens, there is something profoundly refreshing about discovering a masterpiece while you’re picking up groceries or grabbing coffee.

For the ninth year running, the Ortigas Art Festival is reclaiming that communal experience. Returning to GH Mall from July 16 to 31, 2026, the festival has blossomed from a humble exhibition into a multidisciplinary powerhouse—and this year, its message is clear: it’s time to Elevate.

From “Art for All” to Art for the Future

When the Ortigas Art Festival first launched, it was anchored by a simple yet radical vision: “Art for All.” Over nearly a decade, that mantra has evolved. It has grown from a showcase of static paintings into an award-winning, multi-sensory celebration of Philippine culture.

“The theme ‘Elevate’ is both a reflection and a call to action,” explains Renato “Ato” Habulan, the festival’s lead curator. “It honors how far the festival has come over nine years, while challenging artists and audiences alike to rise higher, think deeper, and experience art in new and unexpected ways right here in their neighborhood mall.”

This year, the festival isn’t just elevating the audience’s experience; it’s investing in the creators’ future. In a landmark move, the festival has launched the inaugural Ortigas Art Grant. This initiative is designed to support up-and-coming Filipino artists, providing not just local recognition but a prestigious path to international exposure at Art Basel Hong Kong 2027.

A Cultural Tapestry at the Mall

The programming this year is a masterclass in breadth and depth. The festival acts as a bridge between the legends who shaped our national identity and the emerging voices defining our future.

Visitors can walk through exhibitions honoring two of our most vital cultural icons: the literary works of National Artist Virgilio Almario (in partnership with UP Press) and the theater design legacy of National Artist Salvador Bernal (in collaboration with the CCP).

Contrasting this deep historical dive is the raw, organic innovation of featured artist Junyee, the “Father of Philippine Installation Art.” Known for his ability to weave natural elements into monumental landscapes, his work serves as the beating heart of this year’s gallery experience. He is joined by an impressive roster of collectives, including Eskinita Art Gallery, the Pasig Art Club, and the Collective Artists of Angono, turning the mall corridors into a vibrant, living archive of the Philippine art scene.

Creativity in Motion: Beyond the Canvas

The festival’s multidisciplinary approach extends well into the realm of cinema and performance. In partnership with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) and the CCP, the festival’s film lineup is rigorous and relevant. From the nostalgia-fueled photography of Born in Film to hard-hitting documentaries like That We May See and the gritty realities of Alipato at Muog, the cinematic program invites viewers to confront the complexities of the modern Filipino experience.

For those who prefer to be the ones holding the brush rather than watching from the sidelines, the festival offers a robust series of free workshops. Whether you’re interested in the tactile joy of textured plaster, the precision of block printing, or the technical side of copyright law, the festival aims to turn every mall-goer into a creator.

The Invitation

After nine editions, the Ortigas Art Festival has proven that art doesn’t need to be intimidated by silence or space. By placing avant-garde installations next to retail storefronts and indie films alongside family weekend errands, it breaks down the barriers to entry.

It is a reminder that art isn’t just for collectors or academics—it’s for everyone. It’s an invitation to look a little longer, stay a little curious, and realize that profound beauty is often waiting right around the corner, nestled in the heart of our community.
