This year, Parkway Cancer Centre (PCC) celebrates its 20th anniversary of reshaping cancer care around the unique needs of patients and their families. To mark this major two-decade milestone, the center has introduced three renewed core pillars—Trust, Care, and Hope—designed to steer its next chapter of clinical excellence and holistic healing.
A Vision Born from a Simple Belief
Back in 2006, cancer care was largely fragmented, often requiring patients to bounce from one specialist to another across different locations during an already exhausting time. Recognizing a better way forward, founding physicians—Drs. Ang Peng Tiam, Khoo Kei Siong, Teo Cheng Peng, and Lim Hong Liang—joined forces to build a multidisciplinary, one-stop facility. Their mission was clear, deeply personal, and focused entirely on providing highly coordinated, individualized treatment.
In a joint reflection, the founding team shared:
“When we started two decades ago, we didn’t have every answer mapped out, but we were guided by a simple belief: to care for every patient as they would their own family.”
Under the leadership of Medical Director Dr. Ang Peng Tiam—whose decorated career spans decades of groundbreaking medical research, public service, and prestigious accolades like the National Science Award—PCC has grown into a comprehensive sanctuary of healing.
Reflecting on the evolution of oncology, Dr. Ang noted:
“The last two decades have seen major advances in cancer treatment, leading to higher cure rates, enhanced disease control, and improved quality of life. With ongoing research, I am confident that we shall continue to see even better outcomes in the years ahead.”

Rather than just looking back at milestones, PCC’s 20th anniversary marks a renewed commitment to the human side of medicine. The organization’s three core values serve as both a reflection of its history and a promise for tomorrow:

As Deputy Medical Director Dr. Khoo Kei Siong explains, trust builds naturally as physicians take the time to explain things clearly and honestly through difficult decisions. Dr. Richard Quek highlights the lasting bonds formed through this approach, noting how patients often return years later with their spouses, children, and newborn babies: “That is when we know we did not just treat cancer, we have touched lives.”
- Hope: Fueling the belief in what is possible through continuous medical innovation and relentless progress. Dr. Teo Cheng Peng, Haematology Senior Consultant, shares that hope serves as a vital catalyst: “Hope makes a huge difference in treatment outcome. Hope helps to motivate our patients, it energizes them and fires up their fighting spirit… When hope is paired with trust and care, it can become a powerful part of the healing journey.”
Looking Ahead
While medical technology and treatment options have advanced exponentially since 2006—evolving under a robust team of more than 15 senior consultants, doctors, nurses, and counsellors—PCC’s core ethos remains untouched. As the founders aptly emphasize, while cancer changes a person’s life completely, it does not change what Parkway Cancer Centre stands for.
As PCC steps into its next decade, it continues to prove that premier cancer services are defined not just by advanced medical science, but by utmost comfort, compassion, and a deeply human touch.
