Let’s be honest: usually, when we think of “grocery shopping” and “cardio,” the only thing that comes to mind is rushing to the checkout counter before the line gets long.
But on November 22, Puregold flipped the script. They took one of our favorite Filipino pastimes—the “hakot”—and mashed it up with a fitness event to create the Puregold Hakot Relay Run. The result? A high-energy, community-fueled takeover of Burnham Green Park in Luneta that was equal parts strategy, sweat, and celebration.
If you weren’t among the thousands who filled the park, here is what went down at one of the most unique events of the year.
The Twist: Cardio Meets Cart-Filling
We’ve all seen standard 5k fun runs. This was different. Puregold introduced a chaotic, adrenaline-pumping twist to the traditional 3km relay format.

Teams of three didn’t just compete for speed; they competed for the haul. In a unique “hakot” segment, runners had to strategize and grab specific grocery items to fill their sling bags before tagging in their next teammate. It turned the race into a test of agility and grocery-aisle instincts. Seeing families and barkadas laughing, strategizing, and sprinting with goods in tow brought a refreshing, human element to the competitive atmosphere.
The Vibe: A Sunset P-Pop Party
The energy didn’t dip once the runners crossed the finish line. As the afternoon wore on, the event transitioned from a relay race into a full-blown music festival.
Puregold staged a Sunset Concert right in the park, treating the crowd to a lineup of top-tier OPM and P-Pop talent. The crowd vibed to performances by KAIA, G22, and Press Hit Play, while the dynamic duo BREKA (Brent Manalo and Mika Salamanca) kept the energy high. It was the perfect cool-down—good music, great company, and that golden hour glow over Luneta.

The “Why”: Celebrating Everyday Wins
Beyond the spectacle, the event felt grounded in a genuine desire to bring people together. Puregold President Vincent Co, who actually led the first wave of runners himself, summed up the sentiment perfectly.
“Wins come in many forms,” Co shared. “This is a new one for us, as Puregold tries to create moments where families, friends, and communities can connect. This Hakot Relay Run gave us a chance to do exactly that.”
The Loot
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Puregold event without some serious perks. Every single runner went home a winner. Participants scored an exclusive Puregold Hakot Relay Finisher’s Medal, an official race singlet, and—fittingly—a grocery sling bag designed exclusively for this inaugural run.
What’s Next?
The massive turnout and the smiles on the runners’ faces proved that Puregold has hit on a winning formula: blending fitness, entertainment, and the joy of a good deal. It was a massive success for brand affinity, but more importantly, it was a win for the community.
If this inaugural run is any indication, we can’t wait to see what they cook up next.
