What does it take to survive over 8,000 meters above sea level? Preparation, teamwork, and sheer, raw willpower. That’s the hostile, breathtaking environment where a handful of Filipinos have forged history, and now, you can experience their journey right here in the metro.
R.O.X. (Recreational Outdoor Exchange) is paying a powerful homage to these extraordinary climbers in their must-see photo exhibit, “Ating Tugatog: Filipinos on the World’s Highest Peaks.” This is more than just a gallery; it’s a living testament to R.O.X.’s mission to bring together a community of explorers—people united by courage, curiosity, and a shared respect for the outdoors.
Chronicle of Courage: Meet the Trailblazers
Running from October 8 to 19 at R.O.X. Bonifacio High Street, the exhibit showcases 40 rare photographs that chronicle the incredible feats of five Filipino mountaineers who conquered the world’s most unforgiving peaks, including Mount Everest.

This is your chance to get an intimate look at the legends who redefined Filipino mountaineering:
- Romi Garduce – The Pinoy Trailblazer: He became the first Filipino to summit Everest in 2005 and later, the first to complete the coveted Seven Summits (the highest peaks on each continent). The rare images from his Everest expedition capture both the enormity of the climb and the immense humility of the man behind it.
- Carina Dayondon & Noelle Penetrante – The First Filipina Summiteers: Alongside their teammate, these two became the first Filipinas to conquer Everest in 2007, a historic feat that completely redefined the limits of extreme adventure for Filipino women. Carina Dayondon later completed the Seven Summits in 2018!
- Jeno Panganiban & Miguel Mapalad – The New Generation of 8K Conquerors: Nearly two decades later, these two made history again in May 2025, reaching the world’s highest peak and officially ushering in a new era. They’re now part of the Philippine 14 Peaks Expedition Team, aiming for the world’s highest mountains.
Beyond the Summit: What Drives Every Great Adventure
While “Ating Tugatog” is a stunning chronicle of achievement at high altitude, it’s also a powerful reminder of the core values that fuel every great adventure: preparation, perseverance, and purpose.
As Mary Anne Oriondo, R.O.X. Marketing Manager, shared, “Every expedition requires meticulous planning, absolute trust in your gear, and immense personal resilience. By supporting and celebrating these achievements, R.O.X. aims to inspire every Filipino to push their limits—whether that’s on a local trail or the world’s highest mountains. This exhibit is a powerful reminder that with the right preparation and mindset, Filipino dreams are truly limitless.”
By spotlighting these real stories from the planet’s toughest environments, the exhibit affirms R.O.X.’s essential role as the outfitter of choice for explorers, providing the globally trusted, high-performance gear that empowers them to reach new heights—both on the mountain and in life.
