As a blogger deeply embedded in the social advocacy space, I had the distinct privilege of attending the launch of Verde Creatives Incorporated’s “EQUALITY CHAMPIONS: Magandang Laban” Pride Month Photo Campaign on June 17, 2025. This wasn’t just another event; it was a powerful declaration, a visual rallying cry for the passage of the SOGIESC Bill, and a poignant celebration of Verde Creatives’ eighth anniversary.
A Campaign Rooted in Authentic Leadership
What immediately struck me was the authentic passion behind this campaign. Spearheaded by Ms. Bemz Benedito, a trailblazing transgender woman and the founder of Verde Creatives, “EQUALITY CHAMPIONS” carries immense credibility. Having been the first transgender woman congressional nominee and the first transwoman elected chairperson of Ladlad Partylist, Ms. Benedito’s leadership imbues the campaign with a profound understanding of the LGBTQIA+ community’s decades-long struggle. It’s clear this initiative isn’t just about visibility; it’s about genuine commitment to legislative action.
The Power of Visual Storytelling
The essence of “EQUALITY CHAMPIONS” lies in its compelling visual narrative. As Ms. Benedito herself articulated during the launch, “Each photograph tells a story of courage, resilience, and the unwavering demand for dignity.” This sentiment truly resonated with me. In a world often desensitized by statistics, these images serve as a vital reminder of the human faces behind the SOGIESC Bill, making the fight for equality tangible and deeply personal.
Verde Creatives, building on the success of their “Queen of Baguio” campaign in 2024, has once again demonstrated their unwavering support for Pride Month. This year, the campaign’s impact is amplified through strategic partnerships with Ladlad Partylist and the Society of Transsexual Women of the Philippines (STRAP). The collection features not only images from these core organizations but, crucially, also includes cisgender supporters and allies. This inclusivity highlights the broad coalition advocating for change, a critical element in achieving widespread acceptance.
The presence of esteemed community leaders like Mr. Dexter Macaldo of Ladlad, Ms. Vashti Ortego of STRAP, and Ms. Maria Barbie Anne Arcache, National Leader of 1 LGBT Filipinas Incorporated, further solidified the campaign’s message. Their collective voices and images showcased the diverse spectrum of individuals championing equal rights and visibility. It was also incredibly meaningful to see representation from organizations like the Transpinay of Antipolo Organization (TAO) and the LGBTQIA+ Association of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), underscoring the reach and relevance of this initiative across different sectors.

A “Good Fight” for Justice
The campaign’s title, “Magandang Laban” (Good Fight), is particularly resonant. As Ms. Arcache eloquently stated, “This campaign is a crucial step in bringing the SOGIESC Bill to fruition, transforming decades of struggle into tangible legal protection and acceptance.” The visuals vividly portray Filipinos from various sexual orientations and gender identities, alongside their dedicated supporters, making an undeniable argument for human rights and dignity. It frames the struggle for justice as a righteous and enduring one, demanding collective perseverance.
Broadening the Coalition
Perhaps one of the most encouraging aspects of the “EQUALITY CHAMPIONS” launch was the demonstration of significant cross-sectoral support. High-level legislative backing was evident with the support of Senator Loren Legarda, Representative Geraldine Roman (the first openly transgender congresswoman), and Representative Marlyn “Len” Alonte. Quezon City Councilor Kate Galang-Coseteng showed crucial local government support. Even more impressively, the endorsement from PGeneral Rommel Francisco Marbil and Mrs. Mary Rose Marbil signals a broadening appeal to mainstream segments, while corporate partners like Dark Roast Coffeehouse, P-IKAN, and Organic Nature highlight business community engagement. As Senator Legarda aptly noted, “This initiative beautifully illustrates the human faces behind the SOGIESC Bill, reminding us of all of the fundamental rights and protections that every Filipino deserves.”
More Than an Exhibition, It’s a Movement
Attending this launch cemented my belief that Verde Creatives, under Ms. Benedito’s pioneering vision, is more than just a public relations and events hub; it’s an architect of change. They are adept at wielding the power of narrative to build bridges and champion human rights. “EQUALITY CHAMPIONS: Magandang Laban” isn’t merely an exhibition; it’s an invitation for everyone to engage with powerful visuals and join the growing movement for equality. It’s a testament to the fact that the “good fight” for equality is a shared societal responsibility, gaining undeniable momentum across various pillars of society.
This campaign serves as a powerful reminder that while the struggle for the SOGIESC Bill continues, the collective resolve to achieve it is stronger than ever. What do you believe is the most impactful way for campaigns like “EQUALITY CHAMPIONS” to translate public awareness into tangible legislative action?
