7 Art-Centric Hotels You Don’t Want To Miss This Year

art-centric hotels

If your resolutions for 2025 include nurturing your creative soul and quenching your wanderlust with unique getaways, this is the list for you. Here are 7 extraordinary art-centric hotels around the world – true attractions in their own right, where you’ll be able to immerse yourself in the local art scene…without even getting out of bed.

Bunk Amsterdam

1. Bunk Amsterdam, Amsterdam Noord, the Netherlands

A visit to a charming Amsterdam church! Well, not quite… welcome to Bunk Amsterdam. What was once a place of worship has now been transformed into a space where like-minded travellers and local creatives come together to rest, recharge, and inspire each other. Directly influenced by the values of Burning Man (community, art, and self-expression), Bunk is a lifestyle brand that unites design hotels, luxury hostels, artistic residences and event spaces under the banner of creativity and “Communal Wonderment”.

The ex-church is located in Amsterdam Noord, the most up-and-coming district of the Dutch capital, home to countless artistic hotspots such as NDSM, STRAAT (the world’s biggest museum about street art), WONDR, Eye Museum, or Pllek.
Beyond the original exterior of the old church, Bunk offers strikingly designed interiors adorned with three-dimensional art by street artist JanIsDeMan and exhibitions by local artists that alternate throughout the year. As if that weren’t enough, guests have access (free of charge) to a ready-to-use recording studio, a secret library, and a host of events (also mostly free) ranging from live concerts to meditative pottery sessions, book clubs, live poetry, free haircuts, natural soap workshops, and so much more.

2. Hotel El Ganzo, Baja California Sur, Mexico

Translated as “The Goose”, this hotel sits at one of the most geologically interesting intersections of water, where the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortez. A true sanctuary for creative souls, El Ganzo offers an insightful glimpse into the convergence of art and luxury travel.

The hotel is filled with art installations, many created through its Artist-in-Residence Program, allowing artists to stay at the hotel for free while creating new works. You can now marvel at Charlie Edmiston’s vibrant murals, or Sofía Táboas’ innovative approaches to materials and space.
Just a five-minute ferry ride from the hotel is Crania, Cabo’s most unique party location, hosted and supported by El Ganzo. Again a direct inspiration from Burning Man, Crania offers space for a “cosmic family, everyone is an artist, empowered to ignite revolutionary change through collaborative expression.”

Le Royal Monceau

3. Le Royal Monceau, Paris, France

Why bother booking a ticket to an overcrowded Louvre Museum when you can enjoy incredible art straight from your bed? Located in one of the undisputed art capitals of the world, Le Royal Monceau has been a Parisian institution since its opening in 1928.

This Art Déco landmark was refurbished by world-famous architect Philippe Starck in 2010, and has since then become a place where art can be consumed with no limitations. Some of its cultural amenities include: The Katara Cinema, a state-of-the-art private screening room; Librairie des Arts, an art library for literature enthusiasts; an Art Concierge Service, where art expert Julie Eugène guides guests on a journey through the hotel’s extensive art collection.

The Silo

4. The Silo Hotel, Cape Town, South Africa

What was once a grain silo is now one of Cape Town’s most luxurious and impressive hotels, blending historic heritage, bold design, and contemporary art. Opened in 2017, the hotel was designed by industrial architect Thomas Heatherwick, while the eclectic interior design is primarily the work of Liz Biden, owner of the hotel and of many of the works displayed in the building’s 28 rooms and interiors.

On the ground floor, guests get direct access to the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA), home to the world’s largest collection of contemporary African art. To offer the most enriching experience to their (many) art-focused guests, the Silo as well offers a dedicated Art Concierge, Mr. Michael Jacobs, whose role involves taking guests on museum and art tours around the city, planning artist studio visits, managing gallery sales and the shipment of the artwork. Hard to think of a better place to stay than this, in the artistic capital of the African continent.

5. Villa Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark

What was once the Danish capital’s post office was transformed in 2021 into a veritable temple of Scandinavian design and art. A renovation project of over $250 million breathed new life into this majestic historic building that had fallen into disuse and made it a hotspot frequented as much by discerning foreign travelers as by the Danish upper class.
The artistic afflatus can be felt in every corner of Villa Copenhagen, starting with the design details specially conceived for the hotel – and, in line with Scandinavian tradition, strongly anchored in sustainability principles.

The hotel is also home to Copenhagen’s finest and most extensive private art collection, valued at over US$2.5 million. With acclaimed art curator Sune Nordgren at the helm, the works on display pay homage to Nordic talents, but also include celebrated international artists the likes of Jaume Plensa or Ian McKeever.

The 21c Museum Hotel

6. The 21c Museum Hotel, Louisville, Kentucky, USA

A literal fusion of American history and contemporary art, the 21c Museum Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky, offers guests an extraordinary hotel experience and a unique museum to explore. Set in a 19th-century building, the hotel also houses the acclaimed restaurant Proof on Main.

The hotel’s museum, free to the public, spans 9,000 square meters and hosts a rotating collection of contemporary art. The venue also houses events such as film screenings, performances, and art talks. Some of the renowned artists who have exhibited at 21c include Bill Viola, Tony Oursler, Andres Serrano, and Judy Fox.

7. The Michelberger Hotel, Berlin, Germany

The birthplace of hipster culture, Berlin is often associated with edgy creativity, an unbeatable music scene, and independent contemporary art. Few places in the city embody this creative energy better than The Michelberger, a refurbished old factory where industrial architecture and modern design effortlessly converge, and where every wall exudes a warm feeling of Community.

Situated in Friedrichshain, a neighborhood known for iconic art landmarks like the East Side Gallery, the hotel is surrounded by street art and alternative hotspots, but you won’t need to leave the premises to feel and live the local cultural scene. From their in-house Forest cinema to their own PEOPLE music festival, artist-led talks, kundalini yoga sessions, or past-life regression workshops… at The Michelberg they really do an amazing job of making sure that your creative Self has the best time ever.
