The local cultural scene is about to get a massive infusion of world-class operatic brilliance. After spending many years captivitating audiences across Europe’s greatest musical capitals, acclaimed Milan-based spinto soprano Christiana “Tinette” Serafin de Ocampo is officially back in Manila.
But if you think this is a final curtain call or a nostalgic look back, think again. This highly anticipated return marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter. Tinette is back for a two-month series of “Homecoming Concerts” designed to establish Manila as her permanent Asian base. From here, she plans to bridge her thriving international career across Europe with a brand-new artistic trajectory expanding throughout the Asia-Pacific region. For local music lovers and emerging artists, it’s a rare opportunity to experience an international powerhouse bringing her immense wealth of global experience right to our doorstep.
A Global Journey of Artistic Mastery
Tinette’s path to the grand stages of Europe is nothing short of fascinating. Born in Manila, she originally pursued pre-medical studies at Sarah Lawrence College and Columbia University before her undeniable gift for music redirected her destiny. She earned a prestigious scholarship to the New England Conservatory of Music, studying under Edward Zambara, and later deepened her roots in New York working with the legendary Filipino soprano Evelyn Mandac.
From performing with the Washington National Opera and Washington Concert Opera, visa constraints eventually pivoted her path toward Europe—a move that sparked a decisive artistic turning point. In Vienna, she trained under the legendary soprano Hilde Zadek, who confirmed her development into major dramatic roles like Tosca and Aida.
What sets Tinette apart is her incredibly holistic approach to her craft. Beyond master classes in German Lied and French mélodie traditions, she heavily immersed herself in somatic and movement practices—including Yoga, the Feldenkrais Method, and the Alexander Technique—treating singing as a beautiful integration of body, breath, and spiritual focus. Following highly successful chapters performing in Vienna and teaching in Paris, her recent intensive technical consolidation in Milan has primed her for this spectacular return home.
