THE CAROUSEL IS DEAD: Riot Just Replaced TFT’s Most Iconic Mechanic Forever!

Buckle up, Tacticians. The Convergence is about to get a lot more crowded—and a lot more divine.

Riot Games just pulled back the curtain on Teamfight Tactics: Space Gods, the 17th set of the world’s leading autobattler. Marking the first major release of 2026, Space Gods isn’t just a new coat of paint; it’s a total reimagining of the game we know. We’re heading to the final frontier to vie for the favor of temperamental deities in a clash that blends high-concept sci-fi with ethereal fantasy.

If you’re ready to dazzle some deities, mark your calendars: Space Gods hits PBE servers on Tuesday, March 31, with the full launch on PC and mobile coming Wednesday, April 15.

The End of an Era: Goodbye Carousel, Hello Realm of the Gods

In the most shocking move in TFT history, Riot is officially benching the traditional carousel. In its place comes the Realm of the Gods, a celestial marketplace that puts the set’s titular deities front and center.

Here’s how the power play works:

  • The Choice: At the start of each game, two random Gods are selected to tempt you.
  • The Offering: In the middle of each stage, you’ll visit the Realm to choose between rewards offered by these two deities.
  • The Alignment: Choose a specific God’s offerings at least twice by Stage 4, and they’ll bless you with a unique boon from Stage 4 through 7 that can completely pivot your late-game power.

A Roster Worthy of the Heavens

The unit list for Set 17 is looking absolutely stacked. While fan-favorites like Master Yi, Pyke, and Maokai return to the fray, the legendary 5-cost pool is getting a massive shake-up. For the first time ever, Fiora, Shen, Vex, Graves, and Blitzcrank are ascending to the 5-cost tier, joined by heavy hitters like Jhin, Zed, and Bard.

Keep an eye out for LeBlanc, who is debuting a TFT-exclusive skin from a recent League of Legends line, and the new ethereal duo Bia & Bayin. Plus, for the fans of the Swarm game mode, the Primordian Swarmlings are making their tactical debut.

Traits That Break the Mold

Space Gods is leaning heavily into creative expression and high-risk, high-reward gameplay.

  • Meeple: It’s exactly what it sounds like. Champions bring along companion Meeps that empower abilities. The more Meeple you field, the more Meeps appear, including the TFT-exclusive 2-cost tank, Meepsie.
  • Anima: The new “lose-streak” favorite. You gain “Tech” for losses and takedowns. Reach 100 Tech to prototype Anima Weapons that can be equipped to anyone but shine on Anima units.
  • Dark Star: These units create literal Black Holes on the board to execute low-health enemies. Go deep enough into the trait, and your strongest unit goes Supermassive.
  • Stargazer: No two games are the same. Stargazers chart a different constellation each match, changing which hexes are empowered. Even Lulu’s spell changes based on the stars!
  • Factory New (Graves): As a unique 5-cost, Graves gets permanent upgrades every few rounds. You decide if he’s your frontline tank or your hyper-carry.

The Gods Among Us

Nine legendary champions have been elevated to “God-tier” rulers within the mechanic. Whether it’s Yasuo, God of the Abyss, Ahri, God of Opulence, or Ekko, God of Time, these beings are more than just lore—they are the architects of your win condition.

“Space Gods marks TFT’s closest collaboration yet between our Art, Design and UX teams,” says Noemi Coute, Set Design Lead. “With the Realm of the Gods mechanic replacing the carousel for the first time in TFT’s history, we’re offering players an opportunity to see our Gods in all their glory.”

Drip Check: New Cosmetics

It wouldn’t be a new set without some serious loot. Get ready to empty those Treasure Realms for:

  • Chibis: Battle Bat Xayah, Star Guardian Syndra, and the jaw-dropping Prestige Star Nemesis Morgana.
  • Unbound Tacticians: Chosen of the Wolf Katarina and Dark Star Mordekaiser.
  • Arena: The Star Nemesis Arena is set to be the new gold standard for home boards.

With 40 new Augments—including a Hero Augment that lets Zed create infinite clones—Space Gods is shaping up to be the most ambitious set Riot has ever released. See you in the Realm!
