Let us cut to the chase and come to an agreement that realme 12 Plus 5G which was launched in the Philippines last March 7 is so much better than its previous iteration, the realme 11 Pro 5G, launched a year ago and with the same intro SRP of PhP 19,999 despite the 50% reduction on its main camera’s MPs. And let me tell you why.
12GB/256GB Plus…
Let’s start with the obvious. The realme 12 Plus 5G has all 12GB of RAM in the system and an internal storage of 256GB, the realme 11 Pro 5G was available at 8GB/256GB. The 12+ also has this similar specification at a much lower price of only PhP 17,999. This unit also supports Dynamic RAM Expansion which can boost the RAM up to 24GB. Storage is also expandable up to 2TB via microSD. Game on!
MediaTek Dimensity 7050 Plus…
Platform is basically the same. And you wouldn’t want to change it anyway since the MediaTek Dimensity 7050 and Mali-G68 MC4 Graphics card is already a dream team. The flagship-level octa-core processor provides 5G connectivity with powerful performance up to 2.6GHz plus a high level power efficiency courtesy of its 6nm architecture. However, what’s exciting about the new realme 12 Plus 5G is that it features a large 4,356.62mm2 stainless steel vapor chamber for a high area of coverage and a 1,0231mm2 high-performance graphite sheet. A total of 7 layers for heat dissipation to help reduce temperatures even while running intensive apps for a more stable performance. A much cooler gadget even at the heat of a battle!
50MP Sony LYT 600 OIS Plus…
What sets the realme 12 Plus 5G apart from other smartphone in its class or category is also the one that’s easily thought of as undermining – its 50MP main camera. But what most people didn’t know is that an amazing smartphone camera system is not determined by the number of its megapixels alone.
The realme 12 Plus 5G has a 50MP Sony LYT 600 OIS Main Portrait Camera – a high level camera with a flagship level sensor. SonyLYT Sensors are a new line of sensors from Sony that fall under a similar class to Sony IMX Sensors which are well-known for their sensor sizes that allow a high level of light intake to produce great-looking, well-lit photos, even with a cap of 50 megapixels. The sensor size is 1/1.95”. It has a 26mm focal length and an f/1.88 Aperture. This camera also supports Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and has up to 2x In-Sensor Zoom and Cinematic 2x Portrait Mode at a 52mm Focal Length for an almost human eye-like Point-of-View (POV).
What it all means is that the Sony LYT 600 OIS Camera allows crystal clear shots to be taken even in dimly lit environments. Here are some sample photos:
Autofocus at 2x Zoom
Normal and Wide
Macro
Low Light, Post Capture Watermark and Filters
The realme 12 Plus 5G also sports a triple camera set up that provides an 8MP 112° Wide Angle Camera and 2MP Macro on the rear along with the 50MP Sony LYT 600 Main Camera. In front, you will get a 16MP 25mm Wide Selfie Camera.
The In-Sensor Zoom capabilities are also now embedded into the Portrait Mode, Street Mode, Night Mode, Video, and paired with new filters co-made with Oscar Award Winner for Best Cinematography Claudio Miranda.
Also, record video up to 4K and expect highly improved imaged stabilization and clarity with this new device. Here are some sample videos taken with the realme 12 Plus 5G:
Luxury Watch Design Plus…
Taking elements and refinements from the luxury watch industry, realme 12 Plus 5G’s premium build and design is a collaboration with international luxury watch design master Ollivier Savéo who has worked with Swiss brands including Rolex, Roger Dubuis, Piaget, Breitling, and Quentin. The elements incorporated include the Polished Sunburst Dial, Golden Fluted Bezel, and 3D Jubilee Bracelet. The three above are also complimented by the Premium Vegan Leather Back finish in a shade of blue, beige or green. The device is also extremely thin at 7.87mm and a width of 7.4mm for easy handling, and with a weight of only 190 grams even with its huge battery capacity.
5000 mAh Plus…
And speaking of batteries, has a standard 5000mAh Massive Battery paired with a 67W SUPERVOOC Charge – A fast charging solution that allows the device’s 5000mAh battery to be charged up to 50% in 19 minutes, and up to 100% in 48 minutes. The charger in the box is also PD-compatible, meaning it can accommodate different wattage and charging technologies from 18W Quick Charge, 20W & 30W Dart & VOOC Charge, as well as 33W/ 50W /65W, and 67W SUPERDART / SUPERVOOC Charge. 5000 mAh battery translates up to either 473.11 hours of Standby, 29.28 hours of phone calls, 17.02 hours of YouTube streaming, 20.49 hours of chatting on WhatsApp, 19.46 hours on Twitter or X, 77.32 hours of music playback, and up to 7 or 8 hours of continuous gaming.
Those were the top 5 plusses of the realme 12 Plus 5G, but there are more!
Plus 120Hz Super AMOLED Display
A 6.67” FHD+ AMOLED E4 with a 120Hz Refresh Rate and a 240Hz Touch Sampling Rate. This has very narrow bezels also that results to a 92.65% Screen-To-Body Ratio. It has a 100% DCI-P3 Color Gamut and reaches up to 2,000 Nits of Brightness under direct sunlight. It also supports up to 4,096 levels of brightness for ease of use no matter how dim or dark the surrounding area is for eye protection. Practically a smaller screen but with better brightness compared to the realme 11 Pro.
Plus Rainwater Smart Touch
The display itself is also made durable with the use of 0.68mm Secondary Tempered High Strength Glass and it supports Rainwater Smart Touch, a feature that intelligently detects if there is presence of liquids like water or rain water on the display, or even wet hands, then improves touch input accuracy for it.
Plus Sunlight Display
A ”Sunlight Display” is a technology where the display automatically adjusts dynamic contrast in order to improve viewing under direct sunlight, save power, and improve picture quality.
Plus IP54 Dust & Water Resistance
Another feature not present with other smartphone in its class is a certification for the assurance that small solid particles and accidental splashes will not damage the device severely. But take note that this device certification is marked as “Water Resistant” and not “Waterproof”; it is not submersible, like most smartphones.
Plus In-Display Fingerprint Sensor
realme 12 Plus 5G adapts a new generation of in-display fingerprint scanning technology that allows the phone to be unlocked easier, even under conditions such as low ambient temperatures, having dry fingers, and other situations.
Plus 360° NFC
realme 12 Plus 5G allows for wireless transactions, and from varying angles of the device through NFC technology.
Plus Dual Stereo Speakers
realme 12 Plus 5g also has a built-in Dual Stereo Speakers that support Hi-Res audio to allow a more immersive surround sound experience – for games, calls and entertainment.
So that’s 12 things to consider when deciding to upgrade to a realme 12 Plus 5G.
If you’re looking for a mid-range device that’s high on the value and easy on the pocket, I suggest you get this.
If you’re out looking for a smartphone with a camera that has excellent output even when zoomed and used in a dim lighted environment – and you’re not going to print it on paper (no one does anyway), then this phone is on top of my recommendation list.
