About a month ago, Dr. Carl Balita announced in an event at the Philippine Nurses Association (PNA) office in Manila that he will be producing SIGLO NG KALINGA, a film inspired by the life and works of Anastacia Giron Tupas also known as the Dean of Philippine Nursing.

Together with renowned filmmaker Lemuel Lorca and writer Archie Del Mundo, Balita also said that the movie will have an ambitious casting of actors pooled from the nursing profession. An all-nurses cast!

Last November 16, also at the PNA grounds, Balita and the production team of SIGLO NG KALINGA introduced the initial roster of mostly amateur actors who are real life nurses, but many of them we’re actually familiar with.

  • Abbey Romero
  • Denmark Mismanos
  • Jewell Alano
  • Lorrich Del Tantoco
  • Joel Rey Carcasano
  • Jerico Roque
  • Dre Canaria
  • Bambi Rojas
  • VJ Mendoza
  • Tads Obach

Luminaries in the nursing profession, Irma Bustamante will play Dean Estacia while Lydia Palaypay will take on the role of Anastacia Giron Tupas.

Actress Joy Ras will be playing the film’s lead character as Anna Formantes.

“Nurses are like actors too, we do our jobs everyday and try not to show much emotions especially when we get affected when someone dies. Our jobs as nurses in a way equate to an acting experience.”

Aside from the initial cast, Balita also said that he’s working on getting popular actor-nurses on board the film to play bit parts and cameos. Actors like Rocco Nacino, Kuh Ledesma, Princess Punzalan, Carol Banawa and many others. What characters will they play? Now that’s the surprise.

SIGLO NG KALINGA is set to be released by mid or the later part of 2023.
