Lace Up and Crank the Volume: Rock ’n’ Roll Running Series Manila Turns 5 with a Massive OPM Celebration!

Rock ’n’ Roll Running Series

Manila is about to become the ultimate stage where fitness meets a full-blown music festival. The streets of the capital are gearing up to vibrate with rhythm, energy, and pure Filipino pride as Sunrise Events officially launched the 2026 AIA Rock ’n’ Roll Running Series Manila, presented by ASICS.

Hosted by TV personality Andrei Felix at the historic Bulwagang Villegas in Manila City Hall, the media launch set the tone for what promises to be the biggest, loudest, and most cultural edition of the race yet.

“Ito ay Atin, Sariling Atin”: A Milestone 5th Edition

Turning five is a massive milestone, and this year’s theme, “Ito ay atin, sariling atin” (This is ours, truly ours), celebrates everything we love about Filipino identity. In a brilliant creative pivot, the event is partnering with none other than National Artist for Music, Ryan Cayabyab (Mr. C), to infuse the entire experience with the soul of Original Pilipino Music (OPM).

“This year is more than just a race celebration,” said Princess Galura, President and General Manager of Sunrise Events. “It is a celebration of Filipino identity, Filipino music, and the community that helped build Rock ’n’ Roll Manila over the last five years.”

By joining this globally renowned series, Manila shares the spotlight with legendary host cities like Las Vegas, San Diego, Madrid, and Taipei—but with a distinctly Pinoy twist.

5 Years of Rockin’ the Capital: Highlighting the Journey

It’s hard to believe it’s already been five years! Since its inception, the AIA Rock ’n’ Roll Running Series Manila has completely transformed the local running scene. Let’s take a quick look back at the milestones that got us here:

  • The Debut: Manila made history by becoming the first city in Southeast Asia to host the prestigious Rock ’n’ Roll Running Series, bringing the unique “marathon-meets-concert” concept to local shores.
  • The Global Stamp of Approval: The race earned AIMS and World Athletics certification. It stands proud as the first marathon course in the Philippines capable of officially accrediting qualifying times for the prestigious Abbott World Marathon Majors (like Boston, Tokyo, and London).
  • The Night Run Phenomenon: Unlike traditional early-morning races, Manila captivated runners by lighting up the night, taking participants past beautifully illuminated, historic landmarks like Intramuros, Rizal Park, and the National Museum.

Wearable Art: The 2026 Medals and Swag

This year’s race shirts and finisher medals are actual collector’s items. They feature original doodles and artistic expressions by Mr. Ryan Cayabyab himself, inspired by iconic Manila landmarks and his timeless anthems.

Each race category has been given its own musical identity:

Race DistanceTheme Song Title
Marathon (42K)“Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika”
Half Marathon (21K)“Wala Kang Katulad”
AIA 10KM“Mamang Kutsero” & “Paraiso”
5KM“Limang Dipang Tao”
AIA 1KM Kids“Da Coconut Nut” (Remix: “Kumukutikutitap”)

What to Expect: More Than Just a Footrace

If you think you’re just showing up to log some kilometers, think again. The 5th-anniversary edition is turning up the volume with major lifestyle upgrades:

  • OPM-Themed On-Course Stations: Live music and curated playlists will line the streets to keep your adrenaline pumping.
  • Massive After-Race Concert: Once you cross the finish line, head over to the Quirino Grandstand for an epic concert featuring some of the Philippines’ favorite bands.
  • TikTok Dance Challenge & Flash Mobs: Get ready to groove to a special flash mob inspired by the iconic song “Da Coconut Nut.”
  • Exclusive Merch: Limited-edition collaboration apparel and collectibles celebrating Manila culture will be up for grabs.

The launch gave a taste of this musical magic with an exclusive performance by pop-rock icon Geneva Cruz, alongside Ryan Cayabyab and Reujen Lista.

Running for a Healthier Future

Beyond the music and the medals, the event remains deeply committed to wellness. AIA Philippines, returning as the title sponsor, views the marathon as a premier platform for positive change.

“We’re proud to help elevate Manila onto the global running map—advancing AIA’s Purpose to help people live Healthier, Longer, Better Lives,” shared Melissa Henson, Chief Marketing Officer of AIA Philippines. “We believe sports like running are a powerful way to embrace a healthy lifestyle… while giving them a legitimate pathway to the world’s most prestigious races.”
