Forget what you know about McDonald’s. While we often think of the iconic golden arches for their delicious burgers and crispy fries, there’s a side to the company that’s making a profound impact on communities. In a landmark achievement, McDonald’s Philippines and Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) have just opened their 50th Ronald McDonald Bahay Bulilit Learning Center in Naval, Biliran.
This isn’t just another building; it’s a major milestone in their long-running commitment to early childhood care and development in the country. This newest learning center, located in Barangay Calumpang, is a vibrant, colorful hub designed to inspire the imaginations of up to 100 children each school year.
More Than a Classroom: A Community Hub
The Ronald McDonald Bahay Bulilit in Biliran is truly special. Its interiors are a riot of color, and it comes complete with a playground and solar panels, a donation from RH Solar to help power the space sustainably. A stunning mural by local artist Niño Torcuator brings the walls to life, weaving together the joy of childhood with symbols of Biliran’s rich culture and history.
The center is fully equipped with a dedicated learning area, a cozy reading corner, and a washroom, all stocked with books to help children prepare for kindergarten and grade school.
The grand opening on August 16 was a celebration for the entire community. Officials from the local government, McDonald’s Philippines, RMHC, and partners like Coca-Cola Philippines came together with families from the surrounding community. The day was filled with fun activities, entertainment, and, of course, delicious McDonald’s meals that brought everyone together in the spirit of giving.

A Shared Commitment to the Future
The leaders of McDonald’s Philippines and RMHC made it clear that this initiative is a testament to the power of collaboration. As Adi Hernandez, McDonald’s Philippines’ Assistant Vice President for Corporate Relations and Impact, shared, “The turnover of the 50th Ronald McDonald Bahay Bulilit is a testament to what we can achieve when different sectors work together.”
The local government of Naval, led by Mayor Gretchen Espina, was a key partner in making this happen, prioritizing the welfare and education of their youngest citizens. This milestone, while a huge reason to celebrate, is also a reminder that the work is far from over. The need for accessible education for young Filipinos remains, and so does the commitment of McDonald’s and RMHC to keep building more centers.
Since the very first center was built in 2002, the Ronald McDonald Bahay Bulilit program has been a cornerstone of their efforts. Collectively, these 50 centers can now serve up to 5,000 children annually, providing them with a safe and nurturing environment to learn and play. It’s a powerful reminder that sometimes, the biggest acts of kindness come from the most unexpected places.
