Samsung Galaxy A04s is one of the better priced mid-range smartphone device that the global tech and lifestyle brand has released this year – probably their cheapest entry-level yet. Overall, the A04s is a win in the camera, display and battery department.

I recently had my hands on a 128GB / 4GB BLACK unit and here are some quick impressions.

DESIGN

The seamless, slightly curved and minimalist unibody design is very likable for me. Its back is plastic-made so expect it to be a fingerprint magnet but one thing that’s good about this unit is that it fits comfortably into one’s hand and it’s non slippery compared to the glass sandwich type phones. On the sides, you get a power button that doubles as a fingerprint scanner, the dual sim/microSD tray and the volume rockers. The bottom end houses the USB-C slot, speaker grills and a 3.5mm audio jack. The whole unit is a tad heavier for a plastic-built but that’s not much of a problem.

DISPLAY

The Samsung Galaxy A04s has a 6.5″ Infinity-V PLS LCD display and surprisingly with a 90hz refresh rate. Video test results a color accuracy that is satisfactory, a little bluish on the whites at times but other than that, everything looks sharp, crisp and clear.

CAMERA

Biggest come on of the Galaxy A04s is its 50MP main camera, paired with 2MP Macro and Depth sensors. Unfortunately though, you only get a 5MP selfie and the ultrawide, which I really love, is missing from this unit. Camera’s not really built for night photography but the daylight shots are amazing though! Video quality is 1080p at 30fps. Here are some of the photos I took using the Samsung Galaxy A04s.

BATTERY

This one is built for maximum productivity with its dependable 5000mAh battery. Charging supports the standard 15W but will depend on the bar you’re using and will take you a little over two hours at an average for a full charge.

PERFORMANCE

Samsung Galaxy A04s is powered by an Octa-core Exynos 850 chipset which is known to combine both a stable performance and power efficiency. The storage capacity can be upgraded to 1TB via microSD so that 128GB is really not a problem plus that 4GB RAM is already enough for casual gaming and multi-tasking.

Aside from the built-in Samsung Knox which provides your phone a multi-layered protection, another phone feature that I love is the newly upgraded One UI Core 4.1 which gives users more customisable enhancements like the smart widget function that enables users to stack up to 7 widgets while it analyzes user behavior and automatically display the most relevant stacked widget.

Another One UI Core feature that I liked are its improved photo and video editor that now includes Video Collage plus a host of new gallery features such as the enhanced photo remaster with shadow and reflection eraser, de-moire, old-faded photo enhancer, portrait effect and relighting. The gallery also recognizes sunsets and photos with skies and can create for you a 24-hour time lapse videos.

Priced at only PHP 9,490, the Samsung Galaxy A04s is indeed one of the bigger contenders in the under 10K camera phones here in the Philippines.
