BEKO Philippines: A Greener Tomorrow, One Appliance at a Time

Beko Philippines

It’s no secret that the convenience of modern life often comes with a steep environmental cost. Plastic waste, in particular, has become a global challenge, impacting our oceans, wildlife, and overall planetary health. From the products we choose to the packaging they come in, our daily decisions have a ripple effect.

But what if you didn’t have to choose between convenience and sustainability?

Enter Beko, a leading home appliance company committed to making a difference. Beyond creating innovative products, Beko is dedicated to building a healthier, greener future for everyone. And they’re not just talking about itโ€”they’re actively doing it right here in the Philippines through an impactful partnership with PCX Markets, a global platform dedicated to solving the plastic waste crisis.

Since the partnership began in 2023, the results have been nothing short of impressive. In 2024, Beko Philippines achieved a major milestone, recovering and diverting 100% of its plastic footprintโ€”exceeding the country’s Extended Producer Responsibility law. This incredible effort diverted over 39,000 kg of plastic waste from nature, which is the equivalent of 13 million plastic sachets!

But the story doesn’t stop there. Bekoโ€™s collaboration with PCX Markets is more than just recovering waste; itโ€™s about empowering local communities and giving plastic a new purpose.

Giving Plastic a Second Life

Through projects like the Top Lun initiative, Beko helped recycle 33,000 kg of rigid plastics, like bottle caps. These plastics were sourced from local junk shops and informal waste pickers, then recycled into new materials that other companies could use. It’s a fantastic example of a circular economy in action, turning waste into valuable resources.

Beko also supported the Holcim-Geocycle Project, where post-consumer plastic waste was collected and used as an alternative fuel source in cement facilities. This not only diverted 4,000 kg of flexible plastics from the environment but also helped Holcim reduce its dependence on fossil fuels.

Building Sustainable Communities

Perhaps most inspiring is Beko’s support for the Aling Tindera project, a waste-to-cash initiative that empowers women micro-entrepreneurs. These amazing women collect plastics from their communities, selling them to partners who then use the waste as an alternative fuel in licensed facilities.

This project is a powerful blend of sustainability and community empowerment. It not only addresses plastic waste at the grassroots level but also provides a vital source of income. Through this program, participating women and their communities saw their average monthly income increase by 37%, providing them with approximately โ‚ฑ7,500 in additional income to help support their families.

A Commitment to the Planet

As Alper Yildirim, Country Director of Beko Philippines, puts it: “At Beko, sustainability is at the core of everything we do. Our products are designed to deliver comfort and convenience to every Filipino home, while also caring for the planet.”

He adds, “We are proud of our collaboration with PCX Markets, turning plastic waste into valuable opportunities for the environment and the community. We hope this inspires our customers to take pride in choosing Beko, and for other organizations to be inspired with their own sustainability initiatives.”

Choosing Beko isn’t just about picking an applianceโ€”it’s about making a conscious choice to support a brand thatโ€™s actively working towards a more sustainable world. Every thoughtful action, every innovative appliance, and every partnership like this helps pave the way to a greener tomorrow.
