BDO Unibank Strengthens Philippine-Japan Business Ties with Kyoto Employers Association

Kyoto Employers Association

As Japanese companies increasingly diversify their international footprint to fuel regional growth, BDO Unibank Inc. (BDO) is reinforcing its commitment to supporting foreign investors. This dedication was recently highlighted when BDO hosted a delegation from the Kyoto Employers Association (KEA) at its Makati headquarters.

A Strategic Collaboration for Market Insights

Organized in collaboration with the Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Osaka, this visit marked KEA’s inaugural business mission to the Philippines. Monina Elena Camigla, BDO Unibank’s Senior Vice President and Deputy Department Head of Financial Institutions and International Desks, led the engagement, providing the Japanese delegates with crucial firsthand insights into the Philippine market, labor conditions, and investment prospects.

The Kyoto Employers Association delegation, often referred to as KEA’s “youth team,” comprises next-generation leaders aged 50 and below. These delegates represent a diverse array of industries, including automotive, real estate, IT and web services, graphic design, food manufacturing, refrigeration systems, waste paper recycling, and legal consultancy. This broad representation underscores Kyoto’s dynamic and multifaceted economic landscape. KEA stands as one of Kyoto Prefecture’s four major economic organizations, boasting over 430 member companies, including global powerhouses like Kyocera, Nidec, Horiba, and Shimadzu.

Expanding Beyond Traditional Hubs: The Role of BDO’s Japan Desk

Historically, most Japanese business engagements in the Philippines have been concentrated in Tokyo and Osaka. However, this meeting with BDO focused on expanding cooperation directly between Kyoto-based companies and Philippine stakeholders. BDO stands out as the only bank in the country with comprehensive International Desks, offering a multicultural team of relationship managers and advisors with extensive international and local banking experience.

Established in 2007, BDO’s Japan Desk has seen significant growth. It now features dedicated Japanese-speaking personnel focused on serving Japanese companies operating in the Philippines and addressing the retail banking needs of Japanese customers.

The visit of the Kyoto Employers Association delegation to BDO signifies Japan’s growing recognition of the Philippines’ investment potential. It also underscores the critical role of established and reliable partners like BDO in fostering long-term economic growth and strengthening bilateral business ties.
