The future of education is here, and it’s not just in a textbook—it’s in the seamless integration of human creativity and artificial intelligence. This was the clear message at the recent launch event for the Mapúa Education Group’s Co-Intelligence AI Strategy, a groundbreaking initiative poised to redefine how students, faculty, and employees learn, work, and thrive.
Held at the Mapúa University campus in Makati City, the atmosphere was one of palpable excitement as key officials from across the Mapúa Education Group—including Mapúa University, Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna (Mapúa MCL), Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao (Mapúa MCM), and Mapúa Malayan Digital College (MMDC)—unveiled their collective vision.
As Mapúa University President and CEO Dr. Dodjie S. Maestrecampo remarked, “AI is no longer optional. It is reshaping industries, redefining skills, and reimagining learning.” The Co-Intelligence Strategy, he explained, is a holistic response designed to cultivate a future-ready ecosystem through a three-pronged approach: learning with AI, learning about AI, and working with AI.
Highlights of the Co-Intelligence AI Strategy
The launch showcased how this forward-thinking strategy is already being implemented across the Mapúa network, creating an educational experience that is both innovative and deeply human-centric.
- AI-Infused Curriculum: AI is not just a subject; it’s a tool embedded into every aspect of curriculum design. This enhances the learning experience and hones critical, real-life skills.
- AI-Focused Professional Development: The initiative isn’t just for students. Faculty, staff, and professionals are being upskilled through programs centered on AI technologies, ensuring that the educators are equipped to lead the charge.
- Long-Term Experiential Learning: Mapúa is moving beyond the traditional classroom by engaging students in real-world projects and professional experiences where they can apply their knowledge with AI technologies.
The event also pulled back the curtain on how AI is already a daily reality on each campus:
- At Mapúa MCM, the AI initiative MyPÚA acts as a one-stop digital companion, with features like an AI Tutor that generates and evaluates practice exams.
- The Mapúa MCL campus is utilizing The PathBuilder, an AI-powered platform that personalizes learning paths and customizes content to align with a student’s interests and goals.
- Online learning with MMDC is more convenient than ever through the MMDC Learner’s Assistant, a high-powered AI assistant that provides fast, efficient, and always-on support to students.
Pioneering the Future with the First B.S. in AI Engineering
The biggest headline of the day was the formal announcement of the Philippines’ first-ever Bachelor of Science in AI Engineering course, a pioneering program now available at the Mapúa University School of Electrical, Electronics, and Computer Engineering in Manila.
Dr. Arnold Paglinawan, Dean of the school, shared how the program will prepare a new generation of “AI native engineers” by covering essential topics like machine learning, deep learning, and robotics, while also emphasizing ethical and social concerns. This course, he said, is designed to address local challenges in areas like disaster response, agriculture, and healthcare.
The Human Element: Upskilling, Not Replacing
A key part of the launch was a discussion on the impact of AI on the workforce, led by guest speaker Rowena Subido, First Senior Vice President and Head of RCBC Human Resources Group. Subido directly addressed the fears of job displacement, offering a reassuring and pragmatic perspective.
“AI will only replace your job if you do not have skills. If you do not have the skills, then upskill, reskill, and retool—those are the key things,” she said. Subido praised Mapúa’s new program for helping to “prepare accurately and patiently” the talent that corporations desperately need.
The Mapúa Education Group’s Co-Intelligence Strategy is a testament to their vision: that AI is not a replacement for human intelligence, but a powerful tool that complements and elevates it. It is a proactive step to bridge the skills gap and ensure that Mapúan graduates are not just ready for the future—they are prepared to lead it.
