There are few things more inspiring than seeing dreams turn into reality. Recently, the Palawan Group of Companies celebrated this very idea at a heartwarming thanksgiving ceremony for its 2025 Scholarship Program graduates. This event wasn’t just a simple lunch; it was a powerful testament to the company’s long-standing commitment to education and a celebration of resilience, hope, and community.

For over 40 years, the Palawan Group has been a trusted partner to Filipinos, but its mission extends far beyond business. As Deputy Chairman and Co-Founder Angelita M. Castro shared, the scholarship program was born from a deep-seated belief in paying it forward. “We all finished our studies as scholars ourselves,” she said. “When our company started to grow, we knew we wanted to also do something to change lives.” This personal connection to education makes the program a true labor of love.

A Celebration of Resilience and Success

The room was filled with proud families, beaming graduates, and the Palawan Group team members who have mentored them every step of the way. These employees, who serve as mentors, or “ates” and “kuyas” (big sisters and brothers), have provided not just guidance, but a family-like support system. Hearing the scholars share their stories of ambition and perseverance was a powerful reminder of how much of a difference this kind of support can make.

This year’s celebration was particularly special. The company is marking its 40th anniversary, and it welcomed its first-ever summa cum laude scholar, Mae Kyla Tabla, a BSBA major in Financial Management from Palawan State University. For Mae, the scholarship was more than just financial aid. “The Palawan Group Scholarship Program instilled in me the perseverance to continue pursuing my education and my dreams, no matter how bumpy the road has been,” she shared. Her achievement is a shining example of what happens when talent meets opportunity.

A Legacy of Hope and Giving

Since its establishment in 1998, the Palawan Group of Companies Scholarship Program has produced a total of 778 graduates. Many of these alumni have gone on to become licensed teachers, engineers, certified public accountants, and entrepreneurs, contributing to various sectors across the country. A significant number have even returned to join the Palawan Group, continuing the cycle of service and community building.

As Chief Human Resources Officer Korina Castro-Fernando told the graduates, the goal is to pay it forward. “Our only ask is that you give back—share your blessing with your families and with the country,” she advised. “Do well by doing good, and be kind wherever life takes you.”

The Palawan Group’s commitment to education is a beautiful example of how businesses can be a force for good. It’s not just about a scholarship; it’s about building a legacy of hope, empowering individuals, and shaping a brighter future for the Philippines.
