DHL and Google have partnered to use the DHL Express GoGreen Plus service with Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) for express shipping of Google devices across the Americas, Asia, and Europe. This initiative supports Google’s commitment to promoting decarbonization technologies in air cargo transportation.

“Google has a goal to achieve net-zero emissions across our operations and value chain by 2030. Optimizing how we transport Google devices around the world is a key part of this journey,” says Omar Molina, Director of Global Transportation at Google. “That’s why we’re thrilled to collaborate with partners like DHL, who share our passion for Net-Zero. The SAF program is a big step forward in that direction”.

John Pearson, CEO of DHL Express adds: “By deploying SAF across our international network, we are pleased to offer the GoGreen Plus service to our long-standing partner Google. We are confident that this agreement and Google’s meaningful investment will encourage others to take the same initiative and drive the transition to low-emission transportation services using sustainable aviation fuel.”

The dialogue between Google and DHL Express began at the DHL Era of Sustainable Logistics Global Summit in April 2023, which gathered key decision-makers and stakeholders to discuss sustainable logistics. Following the summit, Google partnered with DHL Express for a four-month pilot project using SAF, which proved successful. As a result, Google expanded its partnership with DHL Express and adopted the GoGreen Plus service for future operations.

Launched by DHL Express in 2023, GoGreen Plus allows customers to reduce CO2e emissions from their shipments using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This initiative is backed by major contracts with BP, Neste, and World Energy. SAF is made from renewable feedstocks, such as used cooking oil, waste, and hydrogen, in contrast to conventional carbon-intensive fuels derived from crude oil.

GoGreen Plus supports DHL Group’s aim of net-zero emissions by 2050. As approximately 70 percent of the company’s carbon footprint originates from its air network, sustainable air transport solutions are crucial for achieving sustainable logistics operations.
