Meralco or the Manila Electric Company has amassed 22 recognitions at this year’s 19th Philippine Quill Awards mainly for its internal and external communications programs which made significant impacts on the lives of its customers amidst the pandemic.

In a recent interview with Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe Zaldarriaga he said that the pandemic has opened gateways for the company to engage with customers to many different touchpoints including digital.

“This pandemic is quite a difficult period. But our focus has and will always be to ensure that the service we provide are at par with the expectations of all our customers.”

Joe Zaldarriaga

Zaldarriaga said that they have pushed far and wide in terms of customer engagement. They’ve gone 100% digital and have created many touchpoints to ensure that people will get the best service from them 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.

“Going digital is one of the key elements necessary to improve and make things easy for our customers.”

Joe Zaldarriaga

Zaldarriaga who also chairs the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Philippines cited many initiatives and programs to meet this end.

Meralco is now more reachable through social media, its app, call centers and strategically located business centers.

Meralco Advisories launched in July 2013 is one of their longest-running campaigns that continuously provide customers with innovative information not only on understanding rates computation, but also tips on energy efficiency or how to effectively manage their energy consumption.

Bright Ideas is another program of Meralco which serves as an awareness campaign to help customers make informed decisions and promote energy-efficient home and establishments.

Power Lab is the first and only multi-purpose facility that aims to educate Filipinos on wise use of electricity with features that allows you to compare energy consumption and the cost to operate different technologies as well as test appliances and find out how much energy they consume.

Aside from being the Company of the Year 1st Runner Up of the 19th Philippine Quill Awards, Meralco, and its subsidiaries received recognitions from other award-giving bodies this year such as the Stevie International Business Awards (IBA), the 2022 Asia Pacific Stevie Awards, the 2022 Gold Quill Awards, and the 57th Anvil Awards.
