MIKOY MORALES may not have won GMA Network’s “Protege: The Battle For The Big Artista Break” five years ago, but the show did put him on the roster of most promising millennial stars today.
Currently playing a closet gay role as Tim in the GMA News and Public Affairs produced comedy-drama series D’Originals, Mikoy’s passion for performing started way back in high school when he joined Kundirana in La Salle Greenhills. And it was actually his love for MUSIC that led him to showbiz.
BUT the heart wants what the heart wants – and that goes the same with both Mikoy’s music and love life.
In a recent acoustic jam session held at Conspiracy Garden Cafe in Quezon City, Mikoy Morales formally introduced his new single “SANA” to online media.
Similarly “melancholic” as his debut single “PUSONG DI MAKATULOG” released digitally early last year, SANA followed the same theme and talks about a young man’s longing in the night. However, unlike his first single, he wrote this one after his BREAK UP with girlfriend Kapuso actress Thea Tolentino.
But no worries, they’re back together again. It was only a slight rift in their four-year strong relationship.
Meanwhile, MIKOY MORALES’ “emo” and “senti” type of music is really going the right way because while I enjoyed listening to his first single last year, the new song SANA is way (way) better than “Pusong Di Makatulog.” A sign that his musicality is maturing and it’s always exciting to watch (and hear) great artists unfolding and finding their own place.
The young singer-songwriter is also in the process of coming out with an independently produced all-original 5-track EP soon.
Aside from performing the songs “Pusong Di Makatulog” and “Sana” live during the event at Conspiracy Garden, Mikoy also sang his version of Coldplay’s “Yellow”, Troye Sivan’s “Youth” and Ed Sheeran’s “Lego House” – a song he dedicated to his mom – his biggest fan!
Also performing that night were Mikoy’s bestfriend Issa Rodriguez and the group TRAPS composed of Paolo Morales (Mikoy’s brother), Mikko Quilala, and Randall Meria.
Mikoy also shared songwriting styles and a brief backgrounder about his new single SANA, check out the interview here:
