The panels consist of an insulating foam core sandwiched between two layers of structural board like sheet metal, plywood, cement, magnesium oxide board (MgO) or Oriented Strand Board (OSB).

The foam core are usually made with either Expanded PolySterene (EPS), Extruded Polysterene (XPS), Polyurethane or Composite Honeycomb (HSC).
