” A roller coaster ride of emotions,” this is how Direk Neal Del Rosario described the new GMA afternoon drama series OH MY MAMA during the Grand Presscon event for the show held last night at the GMA Network building.

The well-attended media event introduces the cast and production team behind the TV adaptation of the 1981 Maricel Soriano-William Martinez hit movie.

Headed by new Kapuso star and the daughter of showbiz legends Janice De Belen and John Estrada, INAH DE BELEN expressed her deep appreciation to the management of her new home network for giving her this big project. Inah (formerly using the name Inah Estrada) started in the entertainment industry two years ago as a Star Magic talent and became a TV5 talent last year before transferring to GMA Artist Center.

Inah De belen will play the role of Mama Cel in the series, the lead role portrayed by no other than the Diamond Star Maricel Soriano in the 80s film.

When asked about her would-be reaction to critics who will be comparing her to the diamond star and also her mom Janice, (with regards to her acting skills of course), Inah said that she feels honored to be carrying the name “De Belen” (and Estrada) and to be portraying a role once played by Maricel Soriano. She promised to do her very best and give it her all and informs the GMA Network management team that they will not be disappointed.

Also present during the grand media launch are his two lead male stars, Jake Vargas (as Julio) and Jeric Gonzales (as Zach). This is their first time to do a project together. The two complemented Inah for both her acting skills and her beauty. Jeric said that the first thing she noticed about Inah was her beautiful eyes.

During the presscon, Jake Vargas was asked by the press if he is in any way going to feel ‘insecured’ being part of a love triangle involving Inah and Jeric. The young actor quickly answered, “Bakit po?” – a reaction that I think garnered him much admiration from the press people.

Aside from the three lead stars, the Presscon introduced Ash Ortega (as Ariana), Epy Quizon (as Gordon), Gladys Reyes (as Inday), Phytos Ramirez (as Justin), Art Solinap (as Rick) and Eunice Lagusad (as Sara).

Award-winning actress Gladys Reyes, who will be playing a support (non-kontrabida) role in the series rates the acting performance of Inah De Belen as a 7 out of 10 which leaves her much room for improvements but an above average acting skill. What this means, according to Gladys, is that Inah has so much potential for acting greatness!

Epy Quizon on the other hand said that what he liked most about Inah is her ability to cry beautifully. “Maganda siya umiyak.”

And of course, Mama Cel’s adopted kids: Teri Malvar (Peewee), Sofia Pablo (Nicole), Jhiz Deocareza (Bayani), Bryce Eusebio (Bimbo) and David Remo (Tito).

Not present in the Presscon were: Sheryl Cruz, Ryan Eigenmann, Francine Prieto, Yul Servo and Jenny Miller.

Direk Neal asked TV viewers to watch the pilot week of Oh My Mama starting September 19 after Eat Bulaga and give the show a chance to prove its worth.

People who have already watched the film and those who have not (like myself) will find themselves on the same level while watching the series because while it is based on the original plot of the film, the story-telling is very different.

The most distinguishing feature of the show according to the cast are the full range of emotions that will be presented in the series – from LOL to tear-jerking moments in the span of a week. A real roller coaster ride.

The Grand Presscon was hosted by GMA Artist Center’s Arianne Bautista.
