A couple of weeks ago, I was able to get my hands on an Alcatel Go Play mobile device!

Released here in the Philippines a couple of months ago, the unit is primarily designed to be dust proof, water proof and shock proof carrying with it an IP67 certification that renders it virtually almost immune to all kinds of usual weather conditions and harsh situations.

Or, if you want to be straight about it – it’s a phone built to be kid-proof!

The Alcatel One Touch Go Play mobile phone is basically a budget phone that initially went out last March with a price tag of 8,999 Pesos. Let me tell you first that for that price, you can get phones with a much better performance than the Go Play but not with an IP67 rating.

The 5” HD IPS 1280 x 720 screen display might not look pretty much of a come-on for techy gamers and social media buffs but it still looked pretty sharp at arms length and at normal lighting conditions. You might find some screen viewing difficulties in heavily lighted areas or outdoors under the sun – it’s just too reflective. I think that’s one minor thing that has to be worked out.

The inside is pretty much basic with a 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 410 Quad-Core CPU paired with an Adreno 306 GPU, 1 Gb of RAM and 8 Gb worth of internal storage space. It runs on Lollipop and as far as connectivity is concerned, it’s pretty much a very decent phone.

The design is very rugged but comfortable which you’d normally expect on an IP67 certified phone. This phone is designed for a submersion time of 30 minutes at a depth of 1 meter.

It is equipped with an 8MP rear and 5 MP front camera that you can of course use under water. The camera resolution is okay but it’s not exceptional.

Overall, the Alcatel Go Play is an excellent budget phone that is perfect for the kiddos! They can mess around all day with it and go hunt for Pokemons and never worry about them coming home with their phone all busted and dead.

Alcatel Go Play is definitely kid-friendly!
