Fresh from her successful 10th Anniversary Concert dubbed as “In Control” last May and the release of her Forever EP last year under VIM Entertainment, JULIE ANNE SAN JOSE once again emerges from the recording studio and releases another album, CHASING THE LIGHT – her third under GMA Records.

It features 10 tracks including two of her personal compositions “Naririnig Mo Ba” and “Not a Game”.  Unlike her last album with GMA Records (Deeper) where she wrote 7 out of the 10 songs in the set, majority of the songs in the latest were written by Edmund Perlas and his group. Julie Anne and Perlas have already worked together in the past. The single “Diamond In My Eyes” from the Deeper Album was penned by Perlas.

The carrier single “Chasing The Light” was written by Agat Obar-Morallos, the writer of Julie Anne’s first massive hit single “I’ll Be There” and her Deeper album’s second anthem “Right Where You Belong”.

Here’s a live sample of the song from Julie Anne:

During an exclusive meet-up with bloggers last week, Julie Anne San Jose said that the best word to describe her new album is “Metamorphosis” but unfortunately it was an overly used title for an album both locally and also in the international music scene – that’s probably the only thing that Hillary Duff, Papa Roach and the Rolling Stones have in common.

CHASING THE LIGHT is the next best thing, since it’s the only song in the album that everyone can relate to. And as she said, it’s the most inspirational song among all the tracks.

Here’s a video of Julie Anne, while she talks about her new album:

Here are the complete list of tracks:

  • Don’t Make Me Wait
  • Naririnig Mo Ba
  • Chasing The Light
  • Not A Game
  • Never Alone
  • Take Me To Nirvana
  • Left Over
  • All About You
  • Just Stay
  • Bonus: Naririnig Mo Ba (Acoustic)

Julie Anne San Jose also collaborated with international Fil-Am hiphop recording artist C-Tru in some of the songs in the new album.

Here’s my copy of Chasing The Light – I now have all her album! A complete signed set! 🙂

japs1I have listened to the new album over and over again, and I couldn’t find an over-all theme for this one. Except that it’s a step down from the modern edgy feel of the FOREVER EP and I guess a more mature but still a conservative take on OPM pop. My favorites from this album is Left Over (written by Toto Sorioso), Naririnig Mo Ba (JAPS) and of course Chasing The Light (Agat Obar-Morallos).

Her first two albums with GMA Records were both massive hits. Her self-titled debut album received the Diamond Record Award (which is quite a rare thing in the music industry today) while her second album “Deeper” were given a Triple Platinum Record Award, also a feat that’s very hard to beat. The song “I’ll Be There” was an epic Quadruple Platinum single and have set the bar for other OPM singers and songwriters.

The question on everyone’s mind is “Will Julie Anne San Jose be able to elevate Chasing The Light to the same level (or higher) that her first two albums have achieved?”

But Julie Anne is not worried, and just like with her first two albums, her goal was never to get an award or any kind of recognition – the real essence of making an album is to share her talent and music to as many people as possible. It is her contribution to OPM and her responsibility to the world as an artist.

Julie Anne also revealed that her camp is now planning a nationwide “In Control” concert tour and a a couple of major concerts abroad – first stop would possibly be in Canada.

In other news, Julie Anne might have finally caught up with light that she was chasing as she reveals more about her relationship status with actor Benjamin Alves. When asked about Ben and the possibility of them becoming an item, Julie Anne said that there would be no problem if ever their relationship goes way beyond friendship since:

  1. She’s now of legal age and status (she just graduated from college, her career is now the only thing that’s left to be considered)
  2. Her parents and friends has no problem with Ben Alves
  3. She think that Ben is serious with his pursuits

Here’s the full video interview:

Basing on what Julie has revealed, I think that there’s already an 80/20 chance of them getting together anytime soon.

And when that day come, I guess the words on the chorus of the song CHASING THE LIGHT will be an appropriate line for both of them:

Chasing The Light

Two so lonely people wishing on the same bright star

Holding on and never giving up

The chance to heal each other’s broken heart

CHASING THE LIGHT is now available in selected Astroplus and Astro Vision outlets nationwide. Digital formats are also available via iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, Google Play and other digital stores worldwide.
