This review is long overdue, but here it is anyway!

Captain America Civil War comes in full contact with the other Marvel films, specially The Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It’s a continuation of the Winter Soldier conspiracy and the overpowering guilt trip of Tony Stark in the Age of Ultron.

Sadly, you need to watch the two films first to get a good grasp of the story but that’s really a great thing actually, because Captain America Civil War contains less of the boring backstories and more of the juicy action.

I’ll make this plain, simple and direct-to-the-point. Captain America Civil War is so far:

  • The best Captain America film ever made. Directors Anthony and Joe Russo has completely outdone themselves on this one. The Russo’s have directed Captain America: The Winter Soldier two years ago.
  • The best Avengers film ever made. In my personal opinion, this film is even better than the other Avengers movie  – it also has the biggest cast of Superheroes which includes Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Winter Soldier, Falcon, War Machine, Hawkeye, Black Panther, Vision, Scarlet Witch and Spider-man. The only one missing are the Hulk and Thor. The movie also introduces Sharon Carter and the terrorist Helmut Zemo and re-introduced the characters of Crossbones (briefly) and General Ross.
  • The most exciting Marvel film ever made. This includes all the other franchises like Thor, Hulk, X-Men, Spider-man, Iron Man and Ant Man. With the exception  of Guardians of the Galaxy which I think is tied with the new Captain America film.

I am specially amazed at how the characters of Ant Man, Spider-Man and Black Panther played out in this film. And also, what a way to say goodbye to War Machine. Good job Marvel!

Needless to say Captain America Civil War is a huge box office hit here in the Philippines and it will be another tough act to follow – so I am very much interested to see how the Avengers Infinity War (whatever it’s called now) is going to look like!
