MIKO Manguba, MICO Cruz, LOUIE Pedroso, JOSHUA Jacobe and ADRIAN Pascual emerged as the top five picks of GMA Network’s reality talent search show TO THE TOP which is like the localized version of the 2000 real-life US drama ‘Making The Band’.
To The Top ran from July to September and was hosted by singer Christian Bautista. Maestro Ryan Cayabyab heads the panel of experienced judges who were given the difficult task to select the most talented among the roster of young amateur singer-performers.
In the end, Miko, Mico, Louie, Joshua and Adrian were hailed from the 25 male hopefuls as the winners!
I finally got a chance to meet and talk to the five talented and young ‘To The Top’ winners who now call themselves as T.O.P. or TOP ONE PROJECT. GMA Artist Center is introducing them as a new OPM boyband whose main goal as a musical group is to gift Filipinos with a new sound to like by rebooting OPM music and adding a more modern feel to it. A sound that’s different from KPOP and western boy group music. Well that’s the plan at least.
HOW TOP ONE PROJECT SOUNDS LIKE INDIVIDUALLY
The OPM scene, although more vibrant than the past years, is still not making any spectacular breakthroughs yet – in terms of winning local listeners from the grip of the international record producers. The industry are still being dominated by western flavor but we are however making some progress and of course, we are definitely not short in talented singers and performers – that’s for sure!
TOP ONE PROJECT is now in for the real fight of their lives.
T.O.P. members believe that with hard work, talent and a lot of creativity, they can someday make a lasting mark on the local music industry and maybe shine so bright that the international market recognize their contributions to the art of performing and making music as well.

TOP ONE PROJECT UP CLOSE
17 year-old Adrian Pascual is the youngest among the five members of TOP ONE PROJECT and he’s also the designated dance leader of the group together with Joshua Jacobe. Adrian aside from singing and dancing wants to be an actor someday. He idolizes Sef Cadayona for both his inborn qualities to dance and do comedy acts well. If given a chance to have his own show on GMA, he would love to do drama and be paired with Bianca Umali.
Louie Pedroso is a 2nd year BS Psychology student in UST and a member of Kundirana before joining To The Top. He is the designated rapper and all-around hype-builder of the group which matches his more out-going and lively character. Music-wise he carries a very mean baritone voice and does melody most of the time.
Miko Manguba appears to be the more mature among the group and has a deep bass voice. He’s currently taking-up Accountancy in De La Salle University but before that he took up Applied Corporate Management. He’s also a member of a pop choral group in DLSU where fellow T.O.P. member Mico Cruz was a member as well. So apparently, all of them are really very much into singing and group singing before joining To The Top.
I was not able to talk to Mico Cruz and Joshua Jacobe personally but from our interview, Joshua appeared to be one of the most outspoken member of the group and he’s the one helping adrian with the group’s choreography while Mico C do most of the melody in their music. He’s like the Brian Littrell of Backstreet Boys or the Justin Timberlake of NSYNC.
When asked about their take on criticisms, the five members were unanimous in saying that right now, they’re taking it as part of the whole shebang. Not paying too much attention on the negative comments are actually giving them more time to concentrate on improving their craft.
