Beginning this Saturday (July 11) and getting a hold of the 7pm primetime slot is the first collaboration of TV5 and The IdeaFirst Company that brings to life a modern retelling of a timeless classic in LolaBasyang.com

This breakthrough fantasy series is directed by real-life couple and the creative brains behind The IdeaFirst Company, Direk Perci Intalan (Dementia) and award-winning writer-director Jun Robles Lana (Jose Rizal, Muro Ami, Barber’s Tale). 

LolaBasyang.com is a modern day, one-of-a-kind re-imagining of the timeless Pinoy icon, Lola Basyang (previously played by Chichay and Luz Valdez), who has become synonymous to storytelling, and the vast collection of folklore and stories that are inherent to Filipino culture.

In this modern twist, Lola Basyang, now known as Lola B, is a tech-savvy blogger who shares her values-laden stories to her grandchildren here and abroad, via webcam. Veteran-actress Boots Anson-Roa will play the title role.

In an era where kids are glued to different gadgets, mobile and computer games, TV5 and series producers The IdeaFirst Company, created LolaBasyang.com to address the need to retell classic Filipino stories, teach moral values, and preserve the Filipinos’ rich cultural and literary heritage through visually-appealing media that captures the attention and imagination of young viewers.

Every Saturday, classic stories such as Maryang Makiling, Ang Plawtin ni Periking, Rosa Mistika and Ang Prinsipeng Mapaghanap, to name a few, will be presented in a way that will spark the imagination of kids today.

For the pilot episode, Jasmine Curtis Smith will play the role of Maryang Makiling together with Rodjun Cruz, Carlos Agassi and Beverly Salviejo.

The second episode stars Vin Abrenica who plays the lead role Periking in Ang Plawtin ni Periking, the story of a young man who tries to win the heart of his crush by using magic flute.

LolaBasyang.Com will tell classic stories and valuable moral lessons one Saturday at a time.  Kids and adults will surely get something out from each wonderful episodes starting this July 11 at 7pm on TV5.
