Fil-Canadian singing sensation and ‘The Voice’ Kids first runner-up Darren Espanto just turned 14 last Sunday (May 24). This makes him the youngest performer to hold a solo major concert at the Mall of Asia Arena and probably one of the youngest performer in the world (if not ‘the’ youngest) to ever have a solo concert on a major venue. Justin Bieber was around 15 – 16 when he first started performing on major concert stages.
I was able to meet this very talented young lad yesterday (May 26) during the media launch of his ‘D Birthday’ Concert held at the C3 Events Place in North Greenhills, San Juan.
Ten year-old Lyca Gairanod won last year’s first season of ‘The Voice’ Kids after getting the most votes from viewers but a lot of people are saying that Darren should’ve been the grand winner of the prestigious singing competition and to many, he really was. The two young artists went on to become good friends and are now set out to make a name for themselves in the local entertainment industry.
Darren Espanto released in December 2014 his 8-track debut album under MCA Music featuring the carrier single “In Love Ako SaYo.” It has peaked at number 1 in all major record outlets and is now officially a certified Gold record.
His newest single “Stuck” will be coming out with an official Music Video which will be unveiled during his ‘D Birthday’ Concert at the Mall of Asia Arena on Friday (May 29). Darren revealed that the music video will be played on the Arena stage’s screen while he sing it live for all the audience.
For those who will not be able to attend the concert, don’t fret because I have here a special treat for all of you. Darren performed ‘Stuck’ live during the media launch and here’s a rainCHECK video of that performance:

Darren said that during the concert, he will be performing on stage with special guests The Voice Season 2 Champion Jason Dy, The Voice Season 2 runner-up Alisah Bonaobra, The Voice Season 1 Champion Mitoy Yonting, the G-Force dancers and also a special appearance of TV Host Robi Domingo and Asia’s Got Talent Grand Winner El Gamma Penumbra.
Darren Espanto did not reveal much about his repertoire for this Friday’s concert but he was however, not able to hide his excitement.
“I’m nervous because it is the first time that I will perform in a concert in such a huge venue. But in everything I do, I give all my best so I’m sure everyone will enjoy the concert.” Darren said.
Darren also thanked all his fans for the support that they have given him since ‘The Voice’ Kids and said,
“Not everyone is given an opportunity like these and I will continue to work hard and make beautiful music to all my fans.”
Here’s Darren inviting everyone to join him in his ‘D Birthday’ concert and to get his self-titled debut album ‘Darren.’
