Two months after inking a contract with GMA Records and changing her name from Rita De Guzman to Rita Daniela, a sexier and more mature version of the Popstar Kids winner is now out with a new 6-track, self-titled album featuring songs that she described as having a ‘Boracay’ feel.
I first met Rita last year when I attended the Kapuso Jamming Session held at the Route 196 Bar in Katipunan together with Dion Ignacio, Mikoy Morales and Frencheska Farr.

Last Thursday, I joined Rita for a KTV night session at the Music Bank Timog together with the people from GMA Artist Center, GMA Records and other bloggers. We got a sample of a one-stanza unplugged version of all her six new tracks including the carrier ‘I’m Flying High’ and the only cover song in the album ‘Fallin’ originally by Janno Gibbs.
She also performed versions of the songs Through The Fire, Love On Top and Through The Rain.
Rita Daniela has really gone a long way from when she won Popstar Kids in 2007 as Rita Iringan. The singing competition also became the launching pad of Julie Anne San Jose’s showbiz career. It’s Rita’s time now!
The 6-track album under GMA Records showcase’s Rita’s powerful vocal talents with songs that will either make you groove loudly, silently or just fall in love. The first track on the album ‘Di Lang Ikaw’ was written by Rita herself – so not only an excellent singer but a fantastic songwriter as well. There are two dance-able light tunes in the album – ‘Forever With You’ and ‘I’m Flying High.’
My personal favorites are the most emotional track in the album – ‘Hahanap Hanapin Ka’ written by Toto Sorioso, and ‘Ihip Ng Hangin’ written by Ann Margaret Figueroa which tasted like Bossa Nova.
Over-all this album is a great debut for the now 19 year old singer! I hope her songs get more airtime and exposures – she rightfully deserves it!
RITA DANIELA, the album is now available on digital and physical CDs for only 199 Pesos! The album also comes with a minus one of all the tracks.
