How do they celebrate Valentine’s Day in Japan?
Did you know that in Japan during Valentine’s Day it is the women who give gifts to the men? They usually receive chocolates from a lot of women on February 14 – those lucky Japs!
There are two kinds of chocolates given during this season, the Giri-Choco and the Honmei-Choco. The Giri-Choco is usually given by girls to male friends, colleaguues and bosses. No romance involved – well, a little admiration maybe but nothing serious. The Honmei-Choco on the other hand is given to a boyfriend, lover or husband. So, if you received a lot of Honmei-Choco on Valentine’s Day – ‘alam na!’
Japanese male on the other hand are given a chance to return the favor a month after Valentine’s Day in an event called the ‘White Day’. They usually give chocolates, flowers, candies and other popular gifts as long as it’s white.
So go to Japan on January or early February, go out and make lots of female friends, and then quickly return to the Philippines before March 14. *hehehe* – the cheapskate diary.
Anyway, you can celebrate Valentine’s Day the ‘Japanese’ way anywhere in the world if that is what you prefer. If you’re here now in the Philippines make your Japanese Valentine’s Day date even more authentic by bringing your dates any day between February 12 to March 8 at a Tokyo Bubble Tea branch because they’ll be serving some awesome V-day treats and discounts for you and your date or dates!
