Kapuso actress and model Bela Padilla or Krista Valle Sullivan in real life who turned 23 last May 3 recently visited the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) Rehabilitation Center located along Aurora Blvd in Katipunan Valley, Loyola Heights Quezon City to spend time with the wonderful rescued animals (especially the cats) inside the shelter facility.
Bela Padilla with PARC Shelter Admin Loren Villena, PAWS Executive Director Anna Cabrera and cute (and very surprised) PusPin LEO.
PAWS is a volunteer-based non-government organization whose goal is to prevent animal cruelty through education, animal sheltering and advocacy. The PAWS Animal Rehabilitation Center (PARC) in Katipunan Valley on the other hand serves as a temporary shelter for dogs, cats and other animals rescued from cruelty or neglect with the ultimate goal of rehabilitating them and placing them in loving homes.
When Bela was asked by GMA Artist Center where to celebrate her post birthday outreach program, she, being a self-confessed lover of animals and silent advocate for endeavors against animal cruelty chose to visit together with family, friends and some members of her fans club (BELAVERS) the PAWS Animal Rehabilitation Center.
I, too am against all forms of animal cruelty and believes in what PAWS continuously stood for. It was however my first time to visit the PAWS Animal Rehabilitation Center or PARC and have felt mixed emotions as we were being toured inside the facility by PAWS Executive Director Anna Cabrera. It was fun to see all the cute and playful shelter animals but at the same it was really sad to know that most of these animals have experienced the worse kinds of neglect and animal cruelty. They have endured so much and it was a relief to see all of them now under the caring hands of PAWS. But many of them are still out there being maltreated every single day and a lot of the animals inside the PARC are currently looking for a loving home.
Bela Padilla loves animals but confesses to be more of a cat person than a dog person. After the tour and while we were all having our snacks courtesy of sponsors Tempura Japanese Grill and Sweet Escape, Bela was inside one of the cat’s cage together with his cousin and some PAWS personnel playing with the cute and cuddly shelter kitties.
There were a total of 256 cats and 74 dogs at the time of our visit.
Bela was quite fond of all the shelter kitties but one of them stood out and it was a white young cat named Milky. Bela already have two cats back home a Persian called Sputnik and a Himalayan called shadow.
After playing with the cats, Bela together with the Belavers prepared some cat and dog meals. By the way, all dogs and cats are tagged, named, prepped and some of them are already ready for adoption like shelter cats Sasha, Milo, Chico, Catniss; and shelter dogs Irish, Hope and Clover.
Bela Padilla and the GMA Artist Center also donated pet foods, shelter materials and cleaning aids to PARC.
The PAWS Animal Rehabilitation Center is an awesome place. Sheltered animals are well taken cared-off, they even have an isolation area for animals who are sick so that they can receive special treatments. The facility has its own veterinarian who look after the health of all the animals and they also have an area inside the facility where people can dedicate memorial wall tiles for their pets who have passed away.
It was a one-of-a-kind experience and I am very sure that Bela also enjoyed her day with the cute felines inside the shelter. Bela is currently busy doing a special series for GMA NewsTV called “Sa Puso ni Doc” together with Dennis Trillo. The young actress also has two upcoming film projects – “Cain At Abel” with Alden Richards and “Barbara.”
