Singer and La Diva member AICELLE SANTOS has signed back for an exclusive three-year contract with GMA Artist Center after doing things on her own since May of 2012.
GMA Artist Center welcomes back AICELLE with an advance birthday party held at Chef Laudico’s Cafe Filipino in Quezon City last February 7 (Friday). The ‘Ballad Princess’ will turn 28 on February 24 and said that she will just celebrate the special occasion with her family over a simple dinner.
Aside from her GMA Artist Center family, some members of the media and the online community, AICELLE got a surprise visit from fellow La Diva MARICRIS GARCIA, RhodoraX Star MARK HERRAS and Innamorata’s ROCCO NACINO.
When we asked about the absence of fellow La Diva JONNALYN VIRAY and the status of their friendship AICELLE said,
“We’re okay naman sa work pero hindi na rin kami kasi ganun ka close like before. The problem that came between us was never about kung sino ang mas star or may insecurities na nangyari, may kanya-kanya naman kaming singing qualities and I believe that AS LONG AS YOU’RE CONFIDENT WITH WHAT YOU HAVE YOU WILL NEVER BE INSECURE.”
The first undefeated Pinoy Pop Superstar also added that although the three of them (La Diva) are not together anymore and currently doing their own thing, she is still looking forward to a La Diva reunion concert or album.
“Proud ako sa La Diva pero sa ngayon kanya-kanya muna kami, ang grupo naman talaga dadating sa ganun, we haven’t been out for a year or so and I am looking forward to an album or even a concert.”
RAK OF AEGIS
Aside from singing, AICELLE also fell in love with theater acting and stage musicals. Her first taste of theater was when she auditioned for last year’s KATY The Musical and got the role of the young Katy. RAK OF AEGIS which is currently running at the PETA Theater until March 9, 2014 is her second theater gig and this time getting the lead role AILEEN alternating with JOAN BUGCAT. RAK OF AEGIS is a comedy-musical about rising above life’s challenges featuring the music of local band AEGIS.
I asked AICELLE if becoming a theater actress was all part of her plan as an artist, and she said,
“I wasn’t really a fanatic of theater before. I can’t say that my involvement in theater was an accident, although I didn’t really have a career plan. But there was a time when the group (La Diva) was not really moving forward, and the real turning point was when I found out that my sister has cancer. That prompted me to make an immediate plan and began searching for opportunities outside of showbiz that was closest to what I am currently doing. So I auditioned for KATY and the rest was history. So, not really an accident but more of a plan or a path that God has laid for me.”
We also asked AICELLE about her theater experience.
“The theater experience is very different. In TV, you perform for the camera, in theater you perform for a live audience. The challenge is to be true to your character because the audience will know if you are not connecting. Masaya. Iba yung nadedevelop sa akin na disiplina, madaming nakikilala at kahit di kalakihan ang natatanggap ng mga artist sa theater compared to other similar industries yung mga learnings na nakukuha namin yun ang di mababayaran.”
An insider point of view on how local theater is doing right now.
“The problem really is a strong support group. OPM and local theater productions are experiencing that. Magkaiba talaga ang support na natatanggap ng mga local artists and productions kumpara sa mga bigtime international artists and productions. Pero tingin ko dumadami na ngayon ang mga advocate ng local theater and OPM. We’ll get there eventually.”
But what about AICELLE’s singing career?
“First love ko ang singing at hinding-hindi ko iiwan ang singing. I believe that I will be coming out soon with a new album.”
AICELLE who admitted during the interview her big admiration for fellow Kapuso actor DENNIS TRILLO said that she’s ready for any project that the Kapuso Network has instore for her. Her birthday wish this year is for more projects and good health.
