“I’m late, I’m late, for a very important date. No time to say hello, goodbye, I’m late, I’m late, I’m late!” said the White Rabbit running through the rabbit hole. And last Thursday (July 11), I was like the White Rabbit literally running late for a very important date at Greenbelt 1 with ALICE.
Yup, that’s little MISS ALICE PLEASENCE LIDELL of the 1865 Lewis Carroll children’s masterpiece ALICE IN WONDERLAND.
My frantic running adventure inside Greenbelt’s 3, 2 and 1 led me to the On Stage theater just in time for the grand unveiling of Repertory Philippine’s special TEA PARTY for all their guests. As the curtain roll up or to the sides – I didn’t really noticed because my eyes are focused on the prettiest Tea Party table arrangement that I have ever seen in my life. Well, actually this is the first TEA PARTY table arrangement that I’ve seen in my life – so I don’t really have any idea – but it’s very PRETTY!
All of us were instantly transported to WONDERLAND as we sat down and feasted our eyes first on the wonderful set up and then on the delicious dishes that are right in front of us. Then Dodos dressed up like waiters approached us and offered us either coffee or tea to go with the snacks (oh no wait, they’re not Dodos, they are real waiters from Bizu) – oh well, for the sake of the Tea Party, let’s all call them Dodos.
Seriously, this is one heavily thought-out event. I commend Repertory Philippines and their marketing group for inserting LIFE to what could have been just a routine press conference for their up-coming musical play ALICE IN WONDERLAND. That Tea Party brought back some great childhood memories and sparked some creativity and imagination in me. As I was sipping from the Tea bottle that has the ‘Drink Me’ label on it and eating from that pastry plate that has the tag ‘Eat Me’ – I was kinda hoping that those stuff will really make me grow or shrink. That’ll be cool! Freaky.. but cool!
Anyway, I think this is Repertory Philippines way of saying that ALICE IN WONDERLAND will be something that both child and adults would definitely enjoy watching. A real awesome experience that no one should miss.
ALICE IN WONDERLAND is Repertory Philippine’s 2013 offering based on the original stage musical adaptation of the Lewis Carroll classic by JIM EILER. It’s a re-staging actually, they already did ALICE IN WONDERLAND way back in 1997. The last Repertory Philippines stage production that I got to watch was Disney’s Aladdin back in 2006.
MS. JOY VIRATA, who started Repertory Philippines’ Theatre for Young Audiences in 1992 said that the re-staging of ALICE IN WONDERLAND will remain faithful to the original stage presentation, from the script up to the original music of JIM EILER and JEANNE BARGY.
