Labor Day is Job Fair Day for 16 SM Malls Nationwide and I was at SM City San Lazaro last Wednesday to witness the influx of hundreds of job seekers taking their chances on landing in one of the 68 participating employers of the SM City San Lazaro Job Fair.
According to Sm City San Lazaro Mall Manager MS. LEA CASAMAYOR, there are about 6,000 job positions available in this year’s Job Fair and this is also SM City San Lazaro’s 6th Job Fair Event. The annual event is in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Public Employment Services Office (PESO).
DOLE Manila Field office representative MS. RUBY DAQUIGAN said that the event serves as a great venue to open job opportunities to the people, especially those who are currently unemployed and also, for participating companies to spot potential quality members of their workforce. It’s a mutually beneficial activity for both the job seekers and the human resource hunters.
It was also revealed that this year’s Job Fair was supposed to happen in just one place – the SMX Convention Center but plans didn’t pushed through. Ms. Casamayor said however, that conducting the Job Fairs in the different malls of SM nationwide is more effective and convenient for job seekers since they won’t have to travel far distances to apply for a job.
Based on initial data, there were about 800 opening crowd of registrants for the SM City San Lazaro Job Fair 2013. A record breaking feat for the community mall. Ms. Casamayor also said that based on past experiences around 10 -15% of the registrants are directly hired on-the-spot and hopes that the number increases this year.
At the end of the Labor Day Job Fair, SM Supermalls estimated the number of Job Fair registrants nationwide to 81, 681 and a total of 2,494 participating companies. For more Sm City San Lazaro Job Fair photos go to the RainCHECK FB Page
