76 years old Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio from Argentine came out of conclave a POPE earlier succeeding POPE Emeritus Benedict XVI.  He is the 266th Leader of the Roman Catholic Church and the first POPE from Latin America.

Cardinal Bergoglio is a Jesuit priest known for his simplicity of living and love for the poor hence, getting the title of Francis from St. Francis of Assisi.  Born in December 17, 1936 in Buenos Aires, he originally planned to become a chemist but eventually decided to become a priest in 1958 under the Jesuits.  He then taught literature and philosophy in the early years.

He is currently the Archbishop of Buenos Aires, serving since 1998 and was elevated to the cardinalate in 2001.

He was known for his views on sexual morality and supported children born out of wedlock and people afflicted by HIV and AIDS.  The new Pope is opposed same-sex marriage, contraception and abortion.
