The cat world is dominated by famous male felines like Felix the Cat, Garfield, Sylvester, Lucifer (Cinderella), Puss (Shrek), The Cheshire (Alice in Wonderland) and Heathcliff. But one female cat stood out and took the limelight and immediately revolutionize the character shop market globally. HELLO KITTY first appeared in 1974 (A year after I was born) as a coin purse design in Japan. Kitty White is a Japanese bob-tailed cat with red bow created by Yuko Shimizu for a company called Sanrio.
From then on, Hello Kitty traveled all over as a Japanese global brand of school supplies, fashion accessories, gift items and high-end consumer products.
Hello Kitty is distributed here in the Philippines by Gift Gate. We used to do our Christmas gift shopping in this place and the nearest to our place back then is their branch in Harrison Plaza. In fact, the name Gift Gate became synonymous to GIFTS – all kinds of gifts, and it was the first shop in mind for a lot of people during birthdays, valentines, Christmas and any kind of occasion.
I thought they disappeared or went bankrupt because most of their shops stopped operating for some time but apparently they’re still very much alive!
I was surprised and even excited to learn that SM City North EDSA was holding a HELLO KITTY Themed Christmas Exhibit at THE BLOCK. I went to check the exhibit last Saturday with friends and here are some of the interesting things that I found there:
The Hello Kitty Village (2nd Level, The Block Atrium)
Exhibit Schedule: Nov 10, 2012 – Jan 6, 2013
Hello Kitty Merchandises (available at the 2nd level, The Block Atrium)
Complete your visit at the Hello Kitty Christmas Village exhibit by bringing home some wonderful Sanrio Hello Kitty stuff. From bags to bath accessories to toys and other gift items – this is your chance to fill your personal spaces with cute Hello Kitty inspired items.
Hello Kitty Collectors Exhibit (3rd Level City Center)
Exhibit Schedule: Nov 10, 2012 – December 31, 2013
I also have some Hello Kitty collectible toys and accessories at home – but it’s nothing compared to all the wonderful items displayed at the Hello Kitty Collectors Exhibit.
Aside from the exhibits, SM City North Edsa will also host several Hello Kitty activities for the whole duration of the holidays like the on-going Hello Kitty Meet and Greet programs which started last November 10.
For the kids, a Hello Kitty Face Painting activity is scheduled on December 2, 15, 16, 22 and 23 from 1pm to 3pm also at The Block Atrium.
You might also want to check out the Hello Kitty inspired home designs at the SM City North Edsa INTERIOR ZONE plus a Hello Kitty Fashion Show by SM Kids on December 8 at The Block.
It’s a full holiday schedule at the SM City North EDSA with their very special and cute guest from Japan. With HELLO KITTY it is really a purrfect Christmas this year!
