Three months after the live gala opening of PROTEGE: The Battle of the Big Artista Break, fans of the reality TV show will now be able to witness the crowning of the Big Artista Winner this coming Sunday.
Last Sunday, we have witnessed the final performances of the remaining six contenders. The categories were chosen by the Protege judges themselves and it was a night like no other. Everyone performed like it was their last – and indeed everyone came out as big winners.
The Final Battle
RURU MADRID performed a west-side story inspired musical number with teen cutie Bea Binene. In my opinion, his number was the weakest that night however, I believe that it was just the wrong choice of production number for him. Ruru however is currently number one on the text votes. I was able to check out the rehearsals and here’s a video of Ruru performing with the dancers.
MIKOY MORALES did an awesome broadway number with LJ Reyes which garnered him an OK vote from one of the judges. He’s currently number 3 on the text votes.
JERIC GONZALES sang an impressive rendition of Mad World by Tears For Fears and wowed all the viewers with his remarkable and believable internalization of the song and the character that he’s portraying. His performance gave him a 3 out of 4 votes from the Judges.
ZANDRA SUMMER did a dance number with the UMD and Sex Bomb. Here she is with her curlers on during the pre-show rehearsals.
THEA TOLENTINO sang Adelle’s ‘Rumour Has It.” Her performance during the rehearsals was super awesome, I think the nerves got the best of her during the actual show because it wasn’t that great anymore. It’s just sad that I don’t have a video of her singing during the rehearsal so you could see how good she was.
ELLE RAMIREZ came out as the Big Winner last Sunday during the final battle with her awesome monologue. She got four out of four votes from the judges. I’d give her my vote if I was judge too. This girl can really act.
I was able to talk to some of the Protege finalists during the rehearsals and here’s what they have to say:
After PROTEGE, what is the first thing you’re going to do?
MIKOY – “Kumain nga madami at magbabad sa computer.”
JERIC – “Uuwi sa province namin sa Quezon at Batangas, kakain ng kakain at manonood ng sine with my family.”
RURU – “Be with my family at maglalaro araw-araw ng mga favorite sports ko, Basketball at Volleyball. At syempre DOTA.”
What are the important lessons you’ve learned in PROTEGE?
RURU – “Ang maging professional at maging humble. Natuto rin ako makisama sa iba’t-ibang uri ng tao.”
JERIC – “Kailangan maging strong on and off camera, to give my best always para hindi magsisi sa huli at ma-feel na pinaghirapan mo talaga ang success.”
What kind of roles do you think would fit you?
RURU – “Tween roles, I think.”
JERIC – “Light roles lang muna siguro, kailangan ko pa mag-workshop para maganda ang foundation.”
MIKOY – “I also need to work on my acting a lot, pero baka sa line ng music muna ako siguro.”
RURU – Barbie Forteza
JERIC – Marian Rivera and Louise Delos Reyes, before it was Jasmine Curdis
MIKOY – Julie Anne San Jose
Had a chance to talk to Zandra Summer as well and asked her what she think is the secret why the six of them are in the finals. And she said:
“Yung mga naiwan from the very beginning ganun pa rin sila hanggang ngayon. We’re just being ourselves at nag-eenjoy kami sa ginagawa namin. Kapag practice, practice talaga. Kahit madaling araw na nag re-rehearse pa din kami.”
