It’s a black and gold affair at the Power Plant Mall, Rockwell Center Makati City last October 11 (Thursday) as Designer AMINA ARANAZ-ALUNAN once again partnered with Rags2Riches for the launch of NUDOS Aranaz Holiday 2012 Collection.

Nudos is ‘knots’ in spanish and for the second time Ms. Aranaz collaborated with RIIR to make Eco-Ethical Styles an in trend in today’s fashion industry.

Amina Aranaz- Alunan is a Filipino bag designer and School of Fashion and the Arts (SoFA) co-founder.  She graduated Cum Laude from Instituto Marangoni in Milan and returned to Manila to build the family bag brand, Aranaz.  She was awarded by Philippine Daily Inquirer’s Super as the designer of the Year for 2006 and was nominated in the Accessories Designer of the Year category at the Mega Fashion Awards 2007.  She is also a member of the Fashion and Design Council of the Philippines (FDCP).  Known for her flair for fashion, she is also often cited as one of Manila’s style icons.  Amina Aranaz-Alunan and her mother Becky Aranaz, greatly contributed to Rags2Riches’ growth as a more sustainable social business enterprise.  Amina also supported the Rags2Riches women with skills training through her School of Fashion and the Arts, or SOFA Manila.

“The Nudos collection is handwoven by our Rags2Riches Cooperative in Payatas and assembled by our in-house workshop.  All knots for this collection, which are new artisan techniques introduced by Amina specifically for these bags and accessories, were handmade in our in-house workshop by our highly skilled, full-time artisans.  Our hope is that with the success of this collection, these beautiful fashion accessories and new artisan skills can be extended to all Rags2Riches communities,” said Reese Fernandez, president for Rags2Riches.

R2R is a for-profit social enterprise based in Manila, Philippines, creating eco-ethical fashion and home accessories out of up-cycled scrap cloth, indigenous, and organic materials by working with artisans from community-based enterprises across the country.

A visually stimulating art installation was the backdrop for the latest line of must-have bags and accessories from RIIR and ARANAZ. Guests also marveled at the haute couture gowns provided by Tina Daniac, while music by internationally- acclaimed violinist Coke Bolipata and pianist Jourdann Petalver created the ambient mood.  Spotted during the event: journalist turned politician Ms. Lauren Legarda and some of the hottest fashion bloggers in town.
