What’s with all the BUKO?

For the past months, I’ve been seeing a lot of kiosks and food carts selling coconut water (buko juices and shakes) sprouting from all corners of EVERYWHERE!  It was as if the whole of Mega Manila have been invaded by coconuts.  Was there an over production of coconuts in the country?

Anyway, whatever the case, I’m going to look at it as a form of blessing or if it was a problem… well, it’s a good problem.  A very healthy one that is.

Coconut Water as a Health Drink

Most Filipinos are well acquainted with song “Da Coconut Nut” by the Smokey Mountain, here’s a few stanza from that song:

The coconut nut is a giant nut
If you eat too much, you’ll get very fat
Now, the coconut nut is a big, big nut
But its delicious nut is not a nut

It’s the coco fruit (it’s the coco fruit)
Of the coco tree (of the coco tree)
From the coco palm family

Although the song stressed the many uses of the coconut, it tells us no information about the benefits of drinking coconut water or juice.  I love my coconuts fresh and natural so I buy them straight from the fruit, sliced with the juicy meat scraped and included on my drink.  Yummy!

Coconut Water aids weight loss

Contrary to the second line of the song, coconuts, most especially the juice is a great weight loss aid.

Coconut water is known for containing electrolytes similar to the human plasma, making it naturally hydrating with less sugar and calories.  Coconut water is also a rich source of iron, calcium and magnesium.  It has 4 times higher potassium content than bananas. The regular drinking of this amazing juice from nature can significantly help reduce food cravings and flush out toxins to boost health and aid in weight loss.

And because it is very low on sugar and fat, it is a great drink for people who have a family history of Diabetes to prevent its onset.

However, our Buko salesman doesn’t go too often to our place and sometimes I do doubt the cleanliness of the Buko knife that he uses for opening the fruit.  Wouldn’t it be nice if we have a fresh-from-the-fruit coconut water (juice) always ready to drink inside our house?

The Tropicana Coco Quench Grand Launch was hosted by celebrity hunk Borgy Manotoc who also facilitated a game that gave away several Ipads to lucky guests of the evening.  We were served with various cocktail concoctions containing the Tropicana Coco Quench.  My favorite was the Coco Mango Frappe and the Citrus Coco Mojito.

Borgy also introduced the Tropicana Coco Quench Ad featuring super model CHARO RONQUILLO.  A homegrown beauty, Ronquillo has walked the runway at prestigious New York and Paris fashion shows. She has appeared on the cover of international fashion and beauty editorials like Vogue, Marie Claire, Elle, Cosmopolitan and Glamour.  Active, healthy and beautiful, Ronquillo embodies the Tropicana Coco Quench lifestyle.

The highlight of the event was a fashion show featuring some of the countries hottest models.
