Been craving for some Chinese take-out since early August particularly Yang Chow Fried Rice and some Dimsum but it seems that there isn’t any chance of that happening until I received an emailed invite last week for a dinner at a Chinese Restaurant in Commonwealth Avenue.  It’s one of those ‘OH YEAH’ and then ‘SAY WHAT?’ moments.

Commonwealth is such a far away place from where my place is at but hey.. it’s a Chinese Restaurant.  So I braved the pouring rain and heavy Friday traffic just to get to my dinner date with fellow blogger friends last August 24.

My dinner is waiting at the KING BEE CHINESE RESTAURANT located at Commonwealth Ave., just a few steps from Ever Commonwealth.  It’s a two-storey establishment that is very intimidating at first look but their menu prices says otherwise.  The food here is surprisingly affordable – well it’s priced much higher than ordinary fast food stores but more affordable than other well-known Chinese restaurants.

The very first King Bee Chinese Restaurant started in Brgy. Manggahan, General Trias, Cavite on August 17, 2001.  A family business that have grown and been known in the province of Cavite.  The King Bee name of the restaurant came from the owner Mrs. Ang Ong King Bee.

Our gracious Host – Ms. Andrea, Marketing of King Bee Restaurant

The restaurant’s menu is being managed by International Chefs from Hong Kong to ensure the quality and authenticity of the Chinese dishes of King Bee.  King Bee’s specialty are Live Seafood dishes similar to the ‘paluto’ restaurants found in Baclaran and Macapagal.

Here are our delicious dinner:

Winter Melon Soup

Let me call this as Wintermelon Soup served with a shrimpy attitude.  The top edges of the wintermelon bowl is filled with shredded chicken, aside from the shrimp, I think there was some tasty bacon bits and mushroom inside the soup.

Dimsum Platter

The platter consists of Chicken Feet, Pork Siomai, Bird’s Eye Siomai.

Sauteed Crystal Prawn Balls with Cashew Nuts in Taro Nest

I am so in love with this dish.  We had a hard time of thinking of what to call the crunchy nest so instead we named it as ‘shing-a-ling’ – the prawn balls mixed with the nuts is such a wonderful combination.

House Specialty Roast Chicken

What’s a Chinese dinner without a roast chicken?  This one’s for the kids.

Sliced Beef with Broccoli

It’s a great alternative for the usual Beef with Ampalaya.  Broccoli is also known for its wonderful health benefits and anti-cancer properties.  So this really is worth including in every meal.

King Fish in Thai Sauce

I love the preparation!  This is one of their best selling Live Seafood dish.  Here’s what the fish look like before cooking:This huge aquarium is located at the ground floor beside the counter.  Customers can select the fish that they like and King Bee will cook it for them fresh!

Yang Chow Fried Rice

And here it is!  I am in Chinese Food heaven last August 24.  My Yang Chow Fried Rice craving was satisfied in full.  I think I’ve had about 4 or 5 cups of this.  What can I say, I am a simple person with simple wants and needs. 🙂

Mixed Fruits Platter

For dessert we had this platter containing some of the fruits in season like watermerlon, mangoes, oranges and apples.

Chinese Pastries

You have got to taste this – especially the one with the mango filling.

My over-all rating for their dishes is … YOU REALLY GET YOUR MONEY’S WORTH ON THIS ONE!
