Here’s PEPPER LUNCH, a Japanese Have-It-Your-Own and Do-It-Yourself Steak Restaurant.

PEPPER LUNCH originated as a fast food steak house in Japan way back in 1994. Their best-seller is and has always been the Beef Pepper Rice but aside from beef they also serve Chicken and Fish (Salmon) Dishes.  Here’s a peek on their menu:

Pepper Lunch Restaurants can be found in several locations in Metro Manila: PowerPlant, Shangrila, Alabang Town Center, Greenbelt 5, Robinsons Ermita, SM Mall of Asia and SM Megamall (this is where I ate).  Also, they will be opening a Fast Food type branch in February 2012 at the 2nd Floor Food Choices in Trinoma that will serve similar meals but in smaller than usual portions and cheaper prices.

Pepper Lunch branches right now are undergoing some face-lifts adapting Singaporean motifs of dark earthly colors that in my opinion is a very wise and sleek choice since the new color combinations is really classy, relaxing and very modern.  A few of the things that I look for when I dine out.

The SM Megamall Branch is located at the Ground Floor of Building A near the terminals (Ortigas MRT station side) – it’s very accessible and just like all the Japanese stores that I’ve been to – counters are located at the entrance.   The store’s design is clean and pleasant to the eyes and food servers have a distinct uniform that spells professionalism.

The first thing I’ve noticed in the store are the sauces on the condiment trays on every table.  They have a honey brown sauce and a Garlic Soy Sauce that tasted almost the same except that one is sweeter than the other.

Now let’s go to the food.

I ordered Japanese Classics No. 17 BEEF TEREYAKI with EGG priced at P325.00, here’s what it look like after the food servers cooked it on your table but actually, you can also choose to cook it yourself. 🙂

I’ll have to commend their TERIYAKI SAUCE – it is very flavorful!  You can tell that this is no ordinary sauce.  The beef is so tender.  You’ll have no problem chewing it to bits.  The dish is served with egg and a siding of corn and beans to balance the flavor.

For desert, PEPPER LUNCH ICE CREAMS.  I tasted all three flavors: Choco Crumble, Peach and Loops and Rainbow Surprise! 🙂

Tummy says it’s going back to PEPPER LUNCH to try their Angus Beef and their all-star best seller BEEF PEPPER RICE with ADD-ONS!  🙂
