It was a rainy Saturday afternoon at Sta. Rosa, Laguna and I was there to witness the grand unveiling of four (4) outdoor art installations located at the heart of NUVALI, Ayala Land’s 2,290 hectare integrated eco-community.

NUVALI headed by its Senior Vice President and General Manager JUN BISNAR worked hand-in-hand with Ayala Museum represented by its curator KEN ESGUERRA in creating the month-long Greenstallations program which aims to celebrate and promote a sustainable way of living and a deeper appreciation for the arts.

The program was held at THE MONOCHROME located at the lakeside commercial district of NUVALI and hosted by Ms. Karen Pamintuan.

Greenstallations features specially commissioned outdoor art installations made by world-class artists Mario Mallari Jr., Juan Carlo Calma, Michael Cacnio and Eduardo Castrillo.  It was really a delight to be in the same room where these four magnificent artists are.

After the program, a bus took us to where the four art installations are located.  The first one is located right in front of the EVOLIVING CENTER along Venado Street.

COMMUNITY OF CREATION

Created by artist EDUARDO CASTRILLO, Community of Creation is a brass sculpture that depicts the dynamics of creative minds coming together and working as one.  Castrillo famous for his metal creations is the artist behind the Paris Biennial in 1971, Loyola Memorial Park’s La Pieta and the People Power Monument in EDSA.

FLOWER PRIMITIVE

Our next stop was lake-side along the Nuvali Boulevard where an art piece made of polished metal resembling a cluster of gigantic red delicate flower that gracefully blend and complement the contours of the contemporary landscape is located.  The artist JUAN CARLO CALMA is an architect by profession who took up sculpture, painting, and light design at California College of Arts and Crafts.

THE LAST TREE

The third art installation is located at the center of the two (2) EVOTECH buildings near SOLENAD 1.  Scrap metal artist MARIO MALLARI who holds a degree in Architecture from the Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP) creates his masterpieces from scraps found in metal assemblage.

LUKSONG LUBID

1996 Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) Awardee MICHAEL CACNIO pays tribute to traditional Filipino scenes with his figurative brass sculpture located still at lakeside at the back of the parking area of THE MONOCHROME along the Evozone Avenue.  Cacnio’s artworks were already featured in solo exhibits here in the Philippines, the United States and Singapore.

These wonderful outdoor art pieces can be viewed the whole month of August highlighting the importance of integrating art in everyday life as well as to remind people that there is always something from nature to feed our senses.  On August 17, NUVALI’s GREENIFICATION will bring more art installations to transform its landscapes into a living and breathing art exhibit.

The Green Art Display which features art installations that make use of non-traditional, earth-friendly and recyclable materials can be viewed from August 17 to September 1.  At the same time, NUVALI will launch ECOGRAFFITI that turns vandalism into an eco-friendly street art form growing on NUVALI’s walls and making a bold environmental statement to make each day an Earth day.

From August 31 to September, man and nature will make music together with NUVALI’s Singing Trees.  Also in September, an arts and crafts workshops for kids will be launched to encourage the younger generation to take care of Mother Earth and appreciate the many wonders and rewards of having nature-inspired art in our lives.
