SM Director’s Club Cinema makes a fitting venue for X-Men Dark Phoenix, the exciting conclusion to the X-Men film saga which started in 2000.

The franchise had a total of 12 films which included the spin-offs – Deadpool 1 and 2 and the Wolverine titles: X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Wolverine and Logan.

Here’s a complete list:

  • X-Men (2000)
  • X2 (2003)
  • X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)
  • X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)
  • X-Men: First Class (2011)
  • The Wolverine (2013)
  • X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)
  • Deadpool (2016)
  • X-Men: Apocalypse (2016)
  • Logan (2017)
  • Deadpool 2 (2018)
  • X-Men Dark Phoenix (2019)

My #5SecReview

Dark Phoenix stars all the original 2nd wave cast introduced in First Class – James McAvoy (Professor Xavier), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique) and Nicholas Hoult (Beast).

The film also includes X-Men: Apocalypse (3rd Wave) cast Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Kodi Smit McPhee (Nightcrawler), Alexandra Shipp (Storm) and Evan Peters (QuickSilver) who appeared much earlier in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Dark Phoenix is like a rewriting of X-Men: The Last Stand which after watching the film yesterday is probably a couple of notch down from the 2006 version when it comes to over-all aesthetics and entertainment value but it’s definitely not without merits.

The bland 90s Monsters Vs Aliens premise is definitely overshadowed by the excellent portrayal of characters delivered by all the cast. You wouldn’t want to miss the “berserker” moments of Jean Grey, Beast, Magneto and Nightcrawler.

Also, the story is somewhat closer to the Dark Phoenix saga in the comic books complete with a 90s-inspired X-Men uniform. I just wished that it had more Mutant Vs. Mutant action scenes.

X-Men Films Best To Worst

If I am to rank all the X-Men films from BEST to WORST – here’s how I would do it:

  1. Logan (2017)
  2. Deadpool 2 (2018)
  3. X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)
  4. X2 (2003)
  5. X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)
  6. X-Men: First Class (2011)
  7. The Wolverine (2013)
  8. X-Men Dark Phoenix (2019)
  9. X-Men (2000)
  10. Deadpool (2016)
  11. X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)
  12. X-Men: Apocalypse (2016)
