Joining the media launch this morning is Vice President Leni Robredo together with last year’s INP winners Florence Rosini and Meg Seranilla.

Rosini won last year’s grand prize with “Byahe Ni Marlon” who shared the story of Marlon Fuentes an Uber driver who has tourette syndrome.

Seranilla on the other hand won 3rd Runner Up with her short film “Tago”.

The main aim of Istorya Ng Pag-Asa Film Festival is to inspire and spread stories of perseverance, dedication, and warmth of ordinary Filipinos amid life’s adversities.

According to Vice President Leni Robredo, Istorya Ng Pag-Asa started as a roving photo gallery project showcasing the inspiring stories of ordinary Filipinos.

Istorya Ng Pag-Asa partnered with various agencies and schools all over the country and have conducted exhibitions in Quezon City, Baguio, Cavite, Bicol, Negros Province, Bacolod, Iloilo, Cebu, Dumaguete, Cagayan De Oro and Puerto Princesa.

The Film Festival was born when the project celebrated its 1st year anniversary in November 2017.

VP Leni said that she was surprised when they got a total of 73 entries and was amazed at the quality of short films that they received.

Initially they were only looking for 10 finalists but because there are so many wonderful entries, they decided to get 15 instead.

“It is our hope that through Istorya Ng Pag-Asa – lalo na iyong Istorya Ng Pag-Asa Film Festival – Filipinos will be united around the common values of hope, of perseverance, deep faith, and the goodness of humanity. Kasi iyon iyong talagang underlying theme ng bawat kwento,” says VP Leni.

Aside from the winning entries, VP Leni mentioned the entry “Alkansya” as one of the entries that touched her heart the most. A story of a young student living in poverty who would fish out “barya” in the murky waters near his home before going to school both for baon and savings.

She was deeply touched with the boy’s story that he sought out a moment with him, treated him to kidzania to give the young lad a little break from poverty and hopefully instill in him an aspiration to rise up from his challenges.

The Vice President also said that while there are no restrictions on who can be featured in entries, which may include politicians or celebrities, they are however encouraging participants to focus on ordinary Filipinos with out-of-the-ordinary life stories and experiences.

During the event, Istorya Ng Pag-Asa Film Festival 2019 also officially introduced actor-producer Dingdong Dantes as its ambassador. Dantes hosted the INP Film Fest 2018 gala night and awarding ceremonies.

For interested participants, send your entries (saved in H.264 Format) to the Office of the Vice President together with the application form, brief resume, 2×2 photos, a copy of government-issued ID and a letter of consent from guardians if a minor.

Deadline of entries is on March 25, 2019.

For full contest mechanics, and to submit entries, interested participants may go to www.istoryangpagasa.ovp.gov.ph.
