Three Reasons To Watch DIRTY OLD MUSICAL

As the old saying goes: 3rd time’s the charm!

Spotlight Artists Centre’s original Pinoy musical production DIRTY OLD MUSICAL (D.O.M.) is now all set for its third run scheduled at the Music Museum on February 22 to March 23.

The show which debuted in September 2016 with Robert Sena, Nonie Buencamino, John Arcilla, Michael Williams and Bo Cerrudo on lead as “The Bench Boys” became an instant hit and have cast a bright ray of hope for the long-dormant local theater industry, which normally took the backseat to big-budgeted and long-running foreign productions.

Ricky Davao was supposed to be part of the original cast but was replaced at the last minute with Bo Cerrudo.

It was such a great success that it got a couple of extensions before coming out with full rerun in January the following year and this time with Carlo Orosa as one of the lead to replace Michael Williams.

This year, Dirty Old Musical takes the audience on a more thrilling ride as they feature two new songs in the beautifully arranged 70’s and 80’s repertoire and the addition of rock and new wave icon Jett Pangan to the cast replacing John Arcilla.

Here are three more good reasons why you should watch D.O.M.:

ONE: It’s a feel-good story. Playfully naughty and irreverent, the musical takes a peek into the personal struggles of five men dealing with middle age crisis and all its telltale signs.

D.O.M. revolves around an all-male ’80s group which disbanded due to personal issues. After several decades, the long-lost comrades consider the prospect of a musical reunion as their last-ditch effort to raise funds for an ailing member. But do they still have the magic and charisma from their long-forgotten youth?

TWO: The music should bring back a wave of nostalgia for Gen Xers.

The musical soundtrack promises to be a pleasant romp down memory lane as these are familiar, iconic OPM hits from the ’70s-’80s, including Kastilyong Buhangin, Mag Exercise Tayo Tuwing Umagang, Nais Ko, Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika, Babae, Legs, Ang Himig Natin, Sana, Pag Tumatagal Lalong Tumitibay, Pasumpa-sumpa Ka Pa, Kung Liligaya Ka, Ayoko na Sa’yo, Farewell, Nosi Balasi and Mr. Kenkoy.

THREE: D.O.M. pokes fun at all the quirks and idiosyncracies associated with tito-hood, a perennial meme-worthy topic on social media.

After all, who said only women have issues? Despite having been touted as the stronger sex, most guys continue to grapple with their own share of concerns, however real or imagined, especially more so with the onset of the years.

THE ENSEMBLE

Sharing the spotlight with The Bench Boys are world-class stage performers and powerhouse supporting ensemble comprised of Kitkat, Tricia Amper-Jimenez, Ima Castro, Neo Rivera, Katherine Tiuseco, Anthony Castillo, Matel Patayon and Carlon Matobato.
