Palanca award-winning author Segundo Matias, Jr. launched last Friday his book MGA BATANG POZ at the Precious Pages Events Center in Quezon City.
Regarded as one of the bravest and most compelling young adult novel of the year, MGA BATANG POZ single-handedly confronts all the misconceptions about HIV-AIDS and marks as an important step forward in understanding the lives of people living with the disease.
The book is basically an emotionally gripping account of four teenagers afflicted with HIV-AIDS. The story grows in poignancy as the characters reveal something about their lives throughout a journey, finding comfort and solace in each other’s harrowing experiences and in return, helping them realize the beauty of life and friendship underneath the suffering.
An expert in telling stories to a younger demographic, Matias wrote “Mga Batang Poz” as part of his graduate thesis in the University of the Philippines Diliman. It was regarded as one of fastest material to be ever lifted-off a collegial manuscript and brought out to the shelves as a young adult fiction novel tackling a highly controversial subject that a lot of people are afraid to discuss in public.
Joining Matias during the book launch are his writing consultants, who all provided great insights about the lives of people dealing with HIV-AIDS and even the medical aspects of the disease.
Award-winning screenwriter Ricky Lee also graced the event in support of Matias saying,
Performing during the launch were “spoken words” local luminaries Words Anonymous and Collaboratory PH.
