CHRISTOPHER ROBIN the movie is a pool of life lessons that explores the complexities of work/life balance.

It has all that animated “Winnie The Pooh” series charm translated in an emotionally-charged live action full-length film feature that will take our lovable characters Pooh, Piglet, Tigger and Eeyore out from the Hundred Acre Woods of Suxxex, East England to as far as Central London to find (literally and figuratively) their friend CHRISTOPHER ROBIN.

The start of the film and its central plot has a a lot of similarities from the 1997 direct-to-video full length animated musical feature “Pooh’s Grand Adventure” – one of my favorite Winnie The Pooh story ever.

The movie starts with Christopher Robin (played by Ewan McGregor) saying goodbye to his friends and Winnie The Pooh as he is sent to boarding school by his father. Fast forward to a fully-grown Christopher who now has a wife Evelyn (Hayley Atwell) and a daughter Madeline (Bronte Carmichael), working at a luggage factory and has already forgotten about Pooh and the rest of his friends in the Hundred Acre Woods.

What happens next will be a great grand adventure for Christopher Robin, Madeline, Pooh and the gang.

The story delves on the complex nature of adulthood and work-life balance where the way of thinking for most hard-working individuals is “Nothing comes from nothing”.

Audiences will learn so much from this movie. Here are some of the most memorable conversations in the movie that reflects the principles and benefits of having a healthy work-life balance among many other things:

Christopher Robin

I’ve cracked.
Winnie the Pooh

Oh, I don’t see any cracks. A few wrinkles maybe.

***

Christopher Robin

I wonder which way.

Winnie the Pooh

I always get to where I’m going by walking away from where I’ve been.

***

Winnie the Pooh

People say nothing is impossible, but I do nothing everyday.

***

Winnie the Pooh

I always get to where I’m going by walking away from where I’ve been.

***

Winnie the Pooh

Doing nothing often leads to the very best something.

***

Winnie the Pooh

Sometimes when I am going somewhere and I wait, a somewhere comes to me.

***

Winnie the Pooh

Rivers know this; there is no hurry. We shall get there someday.

***

Winnie the Pooh

Did you ever stop to think, and forget to start again?

***

Christopher Robin

I was wrong about work. I was wrong about everything, and I’ve got to get back to my family.

***

Christopher Robin

But what I like doing best is Nothing

Winnie The Pooh

How do you do Nothing?

Christopher Robin

Well, it’s when people call out at you just as you’re going off to do it, What are you going to do Christopher Robin, and you say, Oh, nothing, and you go and do it.

Winnie The Pooh

Oh, I see. This is a nothing sort of thing that we’re doing right now.

***

It’s a real heart-warming and lesson-filled movie best watched by the whole family – and hard working, corporate-ladder climbing executives too. And speaking of ladders, here’s one more quote from the movie that talks all about it.

Winnie The Pooh

Your ladder is broken

Christopher Robin

That was a shelf

Winnie The Pooh

Well, that explains why it was no good for climbing

My favorite scene there was when Pooh and friends were asking Christopher Robin about how important is his briefcase to him, to which he said yes, it’s very important. And then they asked “is it more important than Madeline?” his daughter. And Christopher Robin answered, nothing is more important than her Madeline (or something like that) and then Kanga (I think it was Kanga) asked, then “why is she not with you?” – That very moment just struck a very important nerve in my body. And I know it’s going to affect everyone who will watch it too.

CHRISTOPHER ROBIN is directed by Marc Forster and also stars the voice of Jim Cummings (Winnie The Pooh/Tigger), Brad Garrett (Eeyore), Nick Mohammed (Piglet), Peter Capaldi (Rabbit), Sophie Okenedo (Kanga), Sara Sheen (Roo) and Toby Jones (Owl).

CHRISTOPHER ROBIN starts on August 1 here in the Philippines and is available in SM Cinema branches nationwide. And as a special SM Cinema promo, for every paying adult, children below 4 feet can go in the cinema for free. Promo will run from August 8 to 28.

  1. There are of course no accidents in this post. There are two lines there that are exactly the same, go and find it. And like what a silly old bear used to say, anything worth doing (or remembering) is worth doing a second time. 😉😊
